That's my ?

Jbear - June 5th, 2005 2:42 AM

As far as I know, yes. It keeps your bladder empty and out of the way, so that it is not cut during the procedure. The catheter does not hurt.

How long will it have to stay in? The whole day or do they take it out when the baby is born? Will I be able to get up to pee?

Jbear - June 6th, 2005 2:19 AM

I don't know what's normal. I had an emergency c-section because of pre-eclampsia, and so my catheter was in from when they admitted me to the hospital and tried to induce my labor, through the c-section, and for 24 hours after the operation. Then they told me I had to pee before I could go see my daughter, so I got up right away and used the toilet so I could go see her. That's a worst case scenario, and I'm sure you'll have the catheter in for a lot less time. You really don't notice it, and you can't feel when you're peeing...it's kind of strange.

I had an emergency C and was horrified at the thought of having a catheter. My daughter was delivered at 1:30 in the afternoon and the catheter was taken out next morning maybe 7:00. Didn't even feel it at all.

I loved my catheter. But that's me and I'm lazy. lol Didn't feel it go in and didn't feel it come out.

My catherter stayed in until I asked for it to come out, which of course was not until I was able to get out of bed and make it to the restroom.

My catheater came out as I started getting feeling back in my lower body. I have to say that that was probably the most painful part of the whole c section (putting it in that is). As soon as my catheter came out, they had me up walking the halls. They do not leave it in too long, because they want to monitor the amount of discharge you are having.

Yes...I had a catheter during my C-Section. I had my put in after my epidural...so it didn't hurt. It really helps to have one...it will be hard for you to get out of bed to use the restroom. So just get one. They will take it out in about a day.

Yes you do b.c. they will numb you and you can't go yourself. Average length is 24 hours or until the air in your belly begins to move through your bowels.
