Hemroids And Constipation

Please help me!!! I have an 18 month old and towards the end of that pregnancy I got hemroids. Now I'm 14 weeks pregnant and I have external hemroids and constipation for the past 2 months. I'm so uncomfortable because I can't go to the washroom properly. My Doctor has recommended stool softeners for the next 5 days but is there anything else I can do. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks!

I haven't had any constipation problems since early in my pregnancy, but I think it's due to the routine I took on to prevent constipation from happening. This is what I do - first thing in the morning, I eat a bowl of high fiber cereal - it can be anything from shredded wheat to honey bunches of oats. The thing is this gets your system going in the morning and boosts your fiber consumption for the day. Right after that I take my prenatal and iron pill (which together means about 250% your normal RDV of iron as with the prenatal alone I was anemic... if I wasn't doing what I do with my diet I would be badly constipated). Then throughout the day I drink lots of water and make sure I have bread with every meal. I hope this helps. :)

hi fortunate...i feel your pain. i had to call my dr. yesterday because of the same problem. i have dealt with hemmoroids all my life...a few in my youth...but more so after my sons birth 13 years ago....now i am 5wks and getting so constipated that the hemmoroids become unbearable. i bleed quite a bit when i do go...its awful. anyway, heres what you can do...first of all xvkx has a great plan....water and fiber are hugely important. also, lots of fruits and veggies. the dr. told me that metamucil and fiber con are safe ( just make sure you are drinking a lot of fluids)....also she said to take colace which is a stool softener. and if you do not want to take anything, try apple juice.and water, water, water!!good luck and i am so sorry you are going through this. hang in there.
