4wks Pg And No Embryo

I need some help. I found out on 10/7 with HPT that I was pg, I went in the same day for a blood test. Waited all weekend to confirm, they called me on Monday and said that the test didnt make it on time so I needed to come back in. I went in on Monday and on Tues I was confirmed. Well on Monday I started spotting very lightly. I talked with my nurse about the spotting so she had me come in on Wed for a hcg test and wanted me to come back on Friday. Well Fri morning, I got a call that said that my levels were at 21000 and that was really good and I didnt need another test but unless I was spotting to wait. I told her that I was so they scheduled me in for a u/s at 230. I went in for that and the tech asked how far along I was, I told her around 4 weeks, she was hesitant about doing it because she pretty much knew that she might not see anything, she did some measurements and then wanted to do a va___al u/s. She didnt say anything during that, so at the end she said that she didnt see anything that would cause the spotting. Well she wanted to give this info to a nurse, mine wasnt around nor was my dr, so they take me into another dr's office and made me wait for 20 minutes scared to death. So while waiting I could hear in the hallway them saying that my sac measures 6 weeks but I am only 4. The dr came in and basically made it sound like I was having an empty sac and if I was 6 weeks, they should have seen something, they also claim that they think I may be having a tubal too. They found another sac near my ovary/fallopian tube on the left side. They asked if I had any cramping on the left side and I said no. So he that 1 in 4 people miscarry, they may advise surgery but need to wait and make sure its really a tubal or just a cyst. So here I am all upset, thinking that something is going to happen. They kept asking if my dates were correct, well concidering I had a - pg test a week before I started my last P, and I showed that I ovulated in Sept, hmm, no, Im sure my dates are right. So I chatted with a friend whos mom is a u/s tech and asked about my levels and said that normally your numbers wont double or go high if you are having a tubal or empty sac. They actually took my blood before I left that day. So I am so confused about what is going on. They said I measure 6 weeks, I know I am only 4. So its so hard to wait until my next u/s on Tues to see anything different. Has anyone out there had this experience? Especially with having a cyst or tubal at the same time with an empty sac this early? I was on clomid so they claim that a cyst is common and/or I dropped 2 eggs. Please help. you can email me at [email protected]

I found these numbers on a website for you. These numbers are for days past ovulation or conception not from last period. It looks like your levels might line up with 6 weeks too. But I have read several stories of people not seeing anything right at 6 weeks and going back a few days later and poof there it is. Hope this helps. 7 days 3 weeks 0 to 5 14 days 28 days 3 to 426 21 days 35 days 18 to 7,340 28 days 42 days 1080 to 56,500 35 - 42 days 49 - 56 days 7,650 to 229,000 43 - 64 days 57 - 78 days 25,700 to 288,000 57 - 78 days 79 - 100 days 13,300 to 253,000 17 - 24 weeks 2nd trimester 4060 to 65,400 25 wks to term 3rd trimester 3640 to 117,000 After several days postpartum nonpregnant levels (<5)"

Okay, the first post was hard to understand. The first number of days is for time since ovulation or conception. The second number of days is for the number of days since your last period. Sorry this was difficult. 7 days since conception or 3 weeks pregnant: 0 to 5, 14 days or 28 days: 3 to 426, 21 days or 35 days: 18 to 7,340, 28 days or 42 days: 1080 to 56,500, 35 - 42 days or 49 - 56 days: 7,650 to 229,000, 43 - 64 days or 57 - 78 days: 25,700 to 288,000, 57 - 78 days or 79 - 100 days: 13,300 to 253,000,

I hate to tell you this, but IF you are 4-6 weeks pregnant than a level of 21,000 is very HIGH... and SOMETIMES an unusually high level of hcg could indicate a tubal pregnancy BUT could also indicate a multiple pregnancy or such. If your bloodwork was that high and they are seeing a sac on your tube I would be VERY concerned for you having an ectopic pregnancy. Plus, if it were a multiple pregnancy with such an elevated Hcg than it seems they should be able to see something. It IS possible you have a viable preg in the uterus that is too early to see (I had one at 4 weeks not seen but he is 12 yrs old now!) AND an ectopic in the tube that will have to be removed to prevent rupture. Not what you want to hear, I am sorry! PS: I am an RN who has worked most of my years in OB/GYN.

JoAnna, I was in a similar situation last March. I had a blighted Ovum that ended in a D&C. I did research it on the Internet before the D & C was performed. I had never heard of it, I started to spot on and off around the 5-6 week stage. I went to emergency, and they too thought I was pregnant in my tube because they weren’t able to see a gestational sac. It turned out to be a cyst; most pregnant women get them. Well they told me to follow back up with my doctor the next day; I had an ultrasound and still no baby. So, then they drew my blood to see if the HCG numbers were doubling over a 3 day period and they were(like normal). The spotting continued (would spot and start back), with no cramps. I went back for an ultrasound at 7 & 8 weeks still no baby (just an empty sac). I know you hate to hear this, but I didn’t know anything about a “blighted ovum” & didn’t know were to start….Trust and believe that everything will work out, stay optimistic and pray. I wish you the best of luck!!!!
