I know plenty of people for whom the dr. recommended one, but I never knew anyone who actually went. I hate to say it, but unless you are going to make the decision to abort if there is something wrong, then perhaps you should ask your doctor if it is absolutely necessary for “preventative” measures. Either way it is your decision and I wish you well. I hope this helps…

How far along are you? Ask your doctor about the Nuchal Translucency Ultrasound to screen for Downs Syndrome. 100% safe and easy. I had one last week and they said everything looked normal and healthy. If it wasn't, then they do the amnio. This is something new and only so many places do it but it's safe. Plus you get to see your baby! It was the first time for me. You can only have this done between 11-13 wks though. Otherwise there a blood test they can do too before amnio.

Hi thanks for the info re: the Nuchal Translucency Ultrasound. I live in Canada and not sure if we have it here will ask though...I have neural tube defects in my family history( spinal bifida). I have been offered the maternal Serum Screening which is done at 16 weeks which will screen for down syndrome ,Trisomy18 or an open neural tube defect. Just thought I'd see if other have had some info or experience i can work with thanks again!!!!
