Asprin Users Or Anyone That Has Input

I have been taking 80mg (low dose) Asprin once per day since TTC and I am now approaching 14 weeks. I didn't really discuss it with the doc before hand but after a m/c at 12 weeks with my last baby I wanted to make sure I was doing everything I could this time to make it work. So my question: When did you stop taking it? I am really scared to stop. Is there a reason I can't stay on it until the end of my second trimester?

This is what I found from a couple websites. Some research shows that certain women at high risk for preeclampsia (including women with chronic hypertension, severe diabetes, or kidney disease, or who had severe preeclampsia in a prior pregnancy) may benefit from low-dose aspirin therapy, although not everyone agrees on who is a good candidate for this treatment, when it should begin, and what the optimal dose is. So unless your healthcare provider prescribes it, you should avoid taking aspirin altogether, as well as other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen sodium (Aleve), and ketoprofen (Orudis), which can have similar effects. It is especially important not to use aspirin during the last three months of pregnancy unless specifically directed to do so by a doctor because it may cause problems in the unborn child or complications during delivery.

Stephanie, I'm on aspirin therapy because of recurrent loss and a lot of dr's will prescribe it to patients as a cure-all just in case there is an immune or clotting issue. Baby aspirin is fine and harmless. Regular aspirin is a higher dose and therefore NOT ok to take daily in pregnancy. Please tell your doctor as I'm sure it will be fine and DON'T just stop taking it as the change in blood viscosity could cause problems. Most women on aspirin therapy are on it until the last couple weeks of pregnancy so I believe you are fine! Just keep taking it and let your dr. know as soon as you can. Good luck!

p.s. I have to go back and check the places that I read it but I think you stay on it until 36-38 weeks.

Hi Stephanie i have had 2 m/cs (one right before this pregnancy) i am now 31wks pregnant and have been taking 100mg of aspirin since my last m/c. After some testing my obgyn found that my body was producing certain antibodies whilst pregnant causing my blood to thicken so aspirin helps to thin my blood. Stefkay is right you take until 36wks and this is what my obgyn has told me to do. I would tell your doctor you are taking it .Good Luck!! Also Stefkay if you read this post again how have you been?? Hope you are well x
