How soon into my pregnancy can my baby's heartbeat be heard?

I'd like to know too. Just had a scan due to stomach cramps that i was experiencing, there was however no heart beat? Doc said its early days baby is too small. I am however 6 weeks and research says heart starts to beat around 4 weeks after conception.

I had my first Transv____al ultrasound at 8 weeks, and the heart beat was loud and clear because the ultrasound was internally which picked up the heart beat. At 10 weeks I had an ultrasound on the outside of belly, and did not hear the heart beat because the baby is still very small plus it is under the pelvic bone. I was told by week 12 the baby should have moved above the pelvic bone which then you should be able to hear the heart beat.

My doctor tried to find the heartbeat at 10 weeks with a Doppler, but could not. She said not to worry and I'm getting an ultrasound in 2 weeks.

sj, At 6 weeks some times I guess you can see the heartbeat and not hear it. At least the machine that my gynec used couldnt. But I could just see the heartbeat. I am 12 weeks now and we could hear the heart beat but it was after a lot of tries. It took almost 15 minutes to hear the heart beat. but that too was not very clear. I had an ultrasound last week and the baby was growing normally. So the gyenc said the heart beat depends on the machine( It was a real old one) and also if the baby is behind placenta, it would be tricky to hear it. Anyway, I am just hoping all is right and this month end I have the big u/s coming up and hopefully I should be able to hear and see the baby more clearly
