I went to the ER at 5 weeks for spotting. It was a pinkish discharge. I started bleeding 2 hrs after I got there. They called it a threatened abortion and had me off my feet for a few days. The bleeding stopped, and I didn't have any cramps or anything. The blood test will determine the hcg levels and make sure they are normal and aren't too low. I bled again a week or so later after s_x. It was a lot of bright red blood. Called doc and he told me to take it easy...and we had a u/s about a week later. Baby was just fine, with a heartbeat of 140! Bleeding in the First Trimester is fairly common, and it occurs in about 25% of pregnancies. 50% of those cases go on to have a healthy pregnancy. As long as there isn't severe cramping, I'd say you're okay, but take it easy and don't lift anything heavy.
