Confused About Dates From Ultrasound

h__lo ladies! another question from me...it's been a little while at least. So, I don't know who remembers but I had an ultrasound last monday jan 15. According to my LMP I should have been 6 weeks 2 days. I found out I was preg Jan 2nd. I had spotting for a week with some cramping so the doctor sent me in for an u/s, he told me all excited that I should be able to see the baby and probably hear a hb. Now according to the tech I was 4 weeks at that point because of the measurements of the gest. sac...no fetal pole or yolk, obviously then no hb, asking me if i was SURE of my dates. Well, is it possible that I could have tested positve with a hpt on Jan 2nd if I was truly only 4 weeks? They told me to come back for another u/s the 29th which is this coming Monday. I'm super anxious!!! Can anyone help me with these dates? I tested positve 4 weeks 3 days after my LMP and had the ultrasound 2 weeks after that...how could I have only shown 4 weeks on the ultrasound? This has been floating around my head now the past couple of weeks!

Hi Margie, it's hard to answer this question. I see tons of ladies on this board confused about their dates, but there is no way of knowing your dates unless you absolutely know your ovulation date (by temping and charting) or have 2 consecutive ultrasounds (so they can see the baby growing as it is supposed to). I was lucky that I was temping and charting, because based on my LMP when I went in from my ultrasound, I should have been 8w4d---but I was temping and charting and knew my ovulation date (which was 10 days later than the average). Thus, I calcuated my actual babies size as 7w2d not 8w4d. When I went for my first ultrasound, the doctor measured the baby at 7w3d---almost exactly what I had charted. If I had not been charting, I would have been scared to death that there was something wrong with the baby. I know you are anxious, but hopefully your u/s tomorrow, will show your baby is growing on target and you just ovulated later than you thought. Then you can relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Good luck!

thanks so much ginger! i guess i just didn't realize that those home pregnancy tests would detect the pregnancy that early then, thats the only thing that confuses me, but thanks to so many supportive and more experienced women on here im learning to worry a lot less because it seems like just about anything is possible with the miracle of life. i think the next time around im going to chart...this time we just did the ol fashioned "lets just throw caution to the wind and see what happens"...i have learned so much though the past few weeks about pregnancy, whew there sure is a lot to know! : )

Margie, I'm glad you've learned so much. I, too, didn't know much until I came to these forums. Best of luck tomorrow and keep us posted!

I will...the hardest part I guess about the whole thing is the waiting, I just wish I never had that bleeding/cramping then I could just be a tad bit more worry free now. I can never guarantee I'd have no worries...heck even once the pregnancy is done then I'll have the baby to worry about for the rest of it's life!

You are right....the worries never end. This is just the beginning. I hear you on the spotting/bleeding: I had some brown staining every 4-5 days when I would wipe, but I saw my baby and he was fine. My doctor said it was just late implantation bleeding, totally common up to 12 wks.

i know, even though i havent spotted for over a week i still hold my breath every time i go to wipe...haha...it got so common for me to come out of the restroom looking horrified from it at first that my boyfriend has gotten in the habit of asking me after i finish going to pee "so how did everything go?" because he gets worried too. he's so cute about it all sometimes =)
