I have Optimum CHoice HMO & I was wondering if anyone ele had this & if they put any limitations on the # of u/s or anything? I an 5w2d and have my first appt 4/5 which I will be 6w. It seems like a lot of you are having u/s like every few weeks.. is this the norm?

I had an ultrasound at my first visit. 4w6d I was a little surprised that he was doing one, but he wanted to. He also wants me to come back in two weeks for another one.... Go figure...

It all depends on your Doctor. Some people on here are only having 1 their entire pregnancy and I have a Doctor that plans to do them frequently. I go to a very conservative practice and chose them for this reason. I have read in books that it is common to only have one, however. I know that everyone's pregancy benefits are probably different and that may also play a role. I have a PPO and probably should call to double check my coverage but I believe that I am covered if the Doctor provides a good reason for doing the u/s.

I have an HMO and I called because I wanted to know if I could go to another doctor for a 2nd opinion and have another u/s. They told me that only if I it was medically necessary by the same dr would it be possible. But to make sure and call (the ins.co.) everytime they offered something that wasn't standard. Hope that helps

I have a PPO under United Health Care and my Doc scheduled for me to come back. With my Doc its pretty standard bc he wants to verify how far along you are. But I will not get another one until 7 months. I'm going to see if he will change his mind and do one sooner to determine s_x. He may not allow this bc at 7 months he will determine if all babies parts are functioning properly. We will see and I hope this info is helpful.
