Fear Of Miscarrying

I am 6 weeks pregnant, and for some reason I am extremely worried about miscarrying. The thought is on my mind constantly. Is anyone else feeling the same way, and if so, are there any suggestions for calming my fear? By the way this is my first pregnancy and I think my worry is stemming from the mild cramps I am having maybe once or twice a day. No bleeding though.

gaby the cramping is normal due to your uterus strerching to make room for baby, i am also 6 weeks pregnant and i worry too.. i check the tp for any bleeding everytime i go to the bathroom, but so far thank god there hasn't been any blood. i think the only time your fears or i should say ours will be calmed down is when we have an ultrasound. Relax, too much stressing is bad.

Thanks! I am new at all of this and this website is really great at easing some concerns. When is your due date? I am June 7th.

i think it's crazy how bad the fear can sink straight into your bones immediately when you find out you're pregnant!! i spent so much time on the ttc wagon and swore that if i could only just GET PREGNANT i would chill out and everything would be okay. now, it's if i can only make it to the 2nd trimester - i swear i'll be happy then. i wish it were easier to really be excited and joyful about new life, even if there is a chance of miscarriage. i suppose it's really something you have to let go of - i'm in your same boat though. i'm worried all the time about it!!!!

Hi Lisa, I just wanted to let you know, I just spoke with my dr. and she said that for a first pregnancy and if you are under 35 you only have a 5.6% chance. That eases my mind a bit. Thanks!

The only thing I can tell you is to think positive. Also, just know that even if you do miscarry there is nothing you can do to prevent it. What happens is what happens. I felt the exact same way the first time I got pregnant and my fears became reality when I m/c'd at 8 weeks. There was no reason for it either, it just happened and I was totally devestated. I guess I fit into that 5.6% catergory because a the time I was 22 and in very good health. I did concieve again 5 weeks later and am now 26 weeks pregnant and everything is going wonderful. I had an u/s every week from weeks 7-12 and blood tests every week just to make sure everything was good this time. I was also put on progesterone for a few weeks to help with my levels, but so far everything has been great! Just relax, I'm sure everything wil be just fine and before you know it you'll be where I'm at now closer to delivery than just finding out you're prego! I wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy!

Omigosh Gabby! Thanks so much for that!! Every few days the fear sinks in again, but reading that 5.6% number is fantastic for me! I'm only 26 :) And i already told the entire world to pray for us! We have so many people praying for us that even if i do miscarry, i think i'll be okay due to the support.

Its a far everytime I go to the bathroom and wipe! Thank God I don't see red. I can only pray this all goes well. This will be our first child, and I think its a normal fear in any pregnancy. I dreamt last night that I had my U/S and there where twins, but something as wrong with one of them., like he/she was going to have a birth defect. I've been worrying of having a child with a defect because I've been around second hand smoke a few times before I found out I was actually pregnant. But the twins? Lol...that'd be funny.

gabby509 - October 17

My fiance keeps saying that we are going to have twins. I think it may just be what he's wishing for. I would actually like to have twins just to get two pregnancies over in one shot. I hope I feel better by the second trimester, because I feel like CRAP!

i know how you feel.. I havent had a M/C in the past and this is my first pregnancy and I am scared out of my mind. I have found that it helps to talk to people about it and learn as much as you can on pregnancy and miscarriage. I hope you have a great and healthy pregnancy :) -Heather<3

i think it's a fear that every women has, whether it's first or fifth pregnancy. from the minute i found out i had myself convinced it was going to happen, the "spotting" the dr said was normal. old blood (pretty gross) but i'll take that knowing there's a baby growing in there. here's hoping everyone has a healthy & happy 9 months of pregnancy and a happy & healthy baby!!!

During early pregnancy it's hard to distinguish between getting ready to start your period and being pregnant b/c the symptoms are so similar. Cramping is perfectly normal and most women experience it during the first couple of months. If you start to spot then you would have more of a reason to be concerned, but don't be b/c right now what you are experiencing is normal!
