First Doctor S Appointment

What do they do at your first appointment? Do they only do tests on you, or do they try to see the baby as well?

Depending on how far along you are depends on what they do. I was only 4 weeks and they did a pap test, asked tons of family history questions and took a lot of blood, gave me a book and out the door I went. At nine weeks I heard the heartbeat. Good luck! Oh yes, and urine samples on every visit.

Oh, okay! Thanks for the input. I'm in week 5. I have a lot of moderate cramping though, and I was hoping they could something to make sure its not an ectopic pregnancy. I'm paranoid.

At 4-7 weeks I had moderate cramping too. It's your uterus growing as it grows quite at bit during these weeks. Don't worry about it. If it's unbearable or you bleed, call your doc, otherwise it's all normal. I found getting up and moving around helped but it never hurt that bad. Sometimes I'd get some funny twangs and pinches like I was going to get my period, but I never did!

Thanks Heidi! That rea__sures me! I was getting a little nervous.

My experience has been pretty much what Heidi described. The main difference is, I got some brown and pink spotting and called the doc, so I'm having a lot more u/s than they would usually do. I guess there's a good side to everything! I've gotten to see the little heart beat a few extra times!

I am in the same boat -- i just found out yesterday that I am 5 1/2 weeks and my stomach seems to start cramping up a couple hours after I take my vitamins and throughout the day I get what feels like period cramps... I have my first doctors appointment next Wednesday, so I guess I just have to wait and see how it goes till then. :)
