First DR Appointment Puts Me 12 Weeks

I have been on a rollercoaster for the last few weeks. I have a 41 day cycle. LMP was 1/28. I had a blood test on 3/3 and it came out borderline (5 HCG). They made me retest on Monday 3/14 and it was somewhere in the HCG 200's. They want me to come in on Friday because "they" would like to see the HCG in the 1000's. I said to the receptionist that I should probably make an appointment to come in (mind you I am not on prenatels yet either. I have been taking a woman's one a day). She booked an appointment for 4/20 (which would bring me at 12 weeks). Is this normal? Anyone else out there. I am nervous about the low HCG and it looks like I am not going to get an U/S for 12 weeks. Please help.

Don't know if this will be helpful or not, but from everything I have heard on this forum women have their period 14 days after they ovulate. That would mean that you ovulated on about Feb. 17th. Then the egg can live for something like 3 days normally so that would mean you could have concieved somewher between Feb 17-20. Which would mean that at this moment you would be 4 weeks. I can't tell you where HCG levels are supposed to be at though but if you are really this soon into the pregnancy it might not be a bad thing for your levels to be so low. Maybe someone else will know about that. Good luck.

Oops, sorry. I was basing that on you having af on 3/3, not you having a blood test on that day. Sorry, It wouldn't be that different though. If you are right that you have a 41 day cycle and last af was 1/28 that would mean you should have gotten af on 3/10, which would mean you ahould have ovulated around 2/24. That would make you not even a full month pregnant at this time. I'm definatly not a doctor though, I'm just going on what I have heard. But if that is right then I'm pretty sure your leels should be fine.

Misty thanks. I don't understand how these doctors measure from your LMP. GOing by my LMP, I would be seven weeks. However going by the day of conception (2/25) I am at 5 weeks. Which is right?

Not really sure how they do it, I could be completly off. I was just going by what I had heard other women say on this forum about when you ovulate, but if you really did concieve on 2/24 or 25 then I don't see why the doctors date things from your lmp. They did it with me on my first pregnancy, really don't understand that one. But 2/24 to toady 3/16 is two weeks and 6 days. Hopefully somebody else on here knows a bit more then I do on this subject. As far as knowing when you ovulated that was just something I read. And perhaps that was wrong : ) Who knows. 4/20 is a long way off though, Maybe somebody that knows a bit more then me will come along before then.

The base of the LMP is off of a 28 day cycle. If your cycle is longer than 28 days (as is mine), then you will need to tack on the additional number of days (if you're 41, add 12 days to the LMP estimate)... conception date is generally 14 days "younger" than the LMP. Most women ovulate around 14 days after the onset of menstruation, and I think this is true no matter what your overall cycle length is.

Oh, OK, I thought it was that your period always came 14 days after you ovulated. lol. Poor Jodi isn't going to know what the hell is going on. Sorry Jodi.

Whooops! I think I'm wrong... ovulation is usually 16-18 days after the onset of menstruation... or, it could be a few days longer. I think you may be right about the onset of mensies happening 14 days after ovulation. I'm going to stop quoting real numbers from now on... hee-hee

Well based on a 28 day cycle there wouldn't be a diference if you ovulated 14 days after your af of if your af came 14 days after you ovulated. haha, this is a tricky thing to try to write out. : ) In the case of a 41 day cycle though it would make a difference. I'll try to look into it and see what I can find.

I have 32 day cyles, and this is how is works, given that I feel when ovulation occurs + my doctor confirmed it. If you have a 42 day cycle count 42 days from last period then subtract 14. Luteal phase is around 14 for most women. The date you come up with is your estimated ovulation date - I counted and got 2/25. Your 1st doctor apptmt will be at 7.5 weeks from ovulation, I would stick to counting it like that for now until the U/S confirms the size (9.5 weeks from LMP, even though you will count more due to your long cycles). I am sure you will get an u/s done around that time, please keep us posted. :) baby glue to you! (like someone else here wished for me too)

LMAO, too funny Dawn, I couldn't find any website that talked about the specific of when you should ovulate, just a bunch of places that would sell you things so you could figure it out. So I think I will just stop talking about dates also. : ) Really sorry Jodi, I don't think I ended up being helpfull at all. Just keep us posted whenever you find something out.

Thanks Ladies. Misty, Dawn, confusing info, but none the less thanks. Mary- You cleared up some stuff. I feel a lot better about the HCG levels and everything. I wish I didn't worry so much, but when everything says your 7 weeks preggo and HCG is low you tend to freak out. Best wishes to all you guys or BABY GLUE- I like that.
