I am going nuts about eating..becoz i'am scared if i can eat something or not...will this harm my baby and so on...so i though i'll start a thread on that topic. Is it ok to have sweet potato..i read somewhere its a good source of vitamin A and I also read that excess vitamin A will cause nervous related issues.Whats the deal...pls reply and thanks in advance.

Hi Sally, I am 9 weeks pg and I eat whatever I want!! I have not had any nausea so that is good. The first few weeks I was not that hungry at all but I knew I needed to eat, sometimes certain food would sound HORRIBLE to me and there was no way I wanted it, but as for what to eat, my dr has not told me anything and I am hooked on burritos. Thank goodness I have only gained one pound in the pg so far!!

Sally - I'm with you. I'm 6 weeks & am not sure what I can and cannot eat. I haven't had any nausea, but I'm afraid to eat too much or not enough of certain things. I've been eating a lot of turnips and collard greens (I'm from the South, obviously), which I thought were healthy leafy green veggies - but they also have a lot of Vitamin A. I eat sweet potato too. That Vitamin A thing scares me. I also love Chinese food and thought that the veggies and chicken in that was good for me - but I've been told that Chinese food has too much sodium and is not good. Same thing for simple stuff like chicken noodle soup.... (who knew?) I have, however, sworn off all seafood, caffine, and articifical sweeteners - for fear that they may not be good for the baby - and drink only water. In fact, I drink tons and tons of bottled water every day - at least 80+ oz. per day. BUT I wish that I knew the basic rules re: what to eat because there's no way for me to follow those complex "pregnancy diets." I hope this post goes well.

Beth and jenn Congrats on your pregnancy! It really feels nice to have someone to talk to at times like this. someone in the same boat as I am. I do have aversions to certain foods especially anything sweet and green vegetables. I ahve been survivingon bread, egg and milk and hardly any vegetables. I have my first dr's app next Friday. Hoping to get answers to lot of questions. I'll keep them posted. take care and eat well .

Hi everyone. I am 8 weeks and the only things my dr told me to avoid are ripened cheese (blue cheese, gorgonzola etc), juices that aren't processed, like apple juice from an orchard or something that's not pasteurized. As far as too many vitamins etc., what he told me is that as far as sweet potatoes etc., you'd have to eat bushel baskets full to have too much. All the vitamins except A,D,E,K are water soluble so you just pee out any extra your body doesn't want. I eat baked sweet potatoes all the time, VERY good for us pregnant folk!! Excess of vitamin A would be hard for you to get by eating a normal healthy diet.....sorry if I"m rambling but I keep thinking of things my Dr. told me last week...........he said calcium calcium calcium, if you don't drink milk, then eat yogurt, cheese, whatever you can.........hope this helps a little. Good luck!!

I am 11 weeks and have found that if you eat the right foods such as making sure that you eat a variety of fresh and cooked veggies, fresh and dried fruits, lean meats (not processed), whole grains, and dairy products and stay away from too many preservatives, sugar subst_tiutes, soda, caffiene, non-pasturized cheeses and diary, and processed foods you are in the clear! I just make sure I'm are drinking plenty of water (8cups/day)and dairy like milk and taking my pregnancy vitamins it makes me feel good. Many studies, especially the organic or naturalist type people like to scare people. Best advise talk to your doctor!!

When in doubt, talk to your doctor at your next visit and maybe ask to see a nutritionist

i managed to eat fairly healthy during the first few months. But the last few months, I've pretty much been eating everything in sight. Only downfall... I've gained aabout 30lbs so far, and it looks like i'll be having a chubby baby. (9lbs accor. to doc) Stay away from fish and hot dogs. Drink lots of water. And lay off the caffine. GOOD LUCK
