Hi ladies...I was just wondering, for you ladies who had your hcg levels checked at 7/8 weeks...what your numbers were. I've looked online but the scale is so liberal....and my Dr. won't do a u/s until 14 weeks...can you tell by the numbers at 7/8 weeks if you are having twins? My levels at 7.5 weeks were 165,800. My doctor never did a blood test until last week...so I don't know what they were early on in the pregnancy. Thanks for any info.

It gets less common for doctor's to check hcg the further along you are---most levels are checked between 4-6 weeks. The last time mine was checked I was almost 7 weeks and my level was 57,000. Your numbers sound promising for twins. GL!

HI ginger - thanks for responding. I guess it's just different here where I live...I just got into the doctor's a bit earlier than I was supposed to and they checked then. They don't confirm pregnancy here until 10 weeks at the prenatal clinic. My first prenatal appt. is on the 26th...but they said they aren't doing an u/s....they said that the first u/s won't be until 14 weeks. I don't know if I can wait that long to find out if it is a singleton or twins. Could they tell by the size of my uterus if it's one or two? If I tell them about the history of twins in both of our families, do you think that they might do an u/s? Thanks so much!

frozenfeet- Do tell them of your history of twins. And try to be insistent that you would like an ultra sound on the 26th. If you are having twins this will move your do-date up and my doctor is having me take double the folic acid.

wow, frozen...that's incredible that they don't do your first ultrasound until 14 weeks! I am going to be 12 wks at the end of the week and I am going for my third u/s on Friday! I don't blame you for wanting to know. I agree with happistuff, do push and see if you can get in any earlier. Wouldn't it be neat to have two blessings!

High HCG levels are no indication of twins. Studies show that the levels are similar between twins and singletons. It is strange not to have had at least opne ultrasound by now. I suggest asking for one, and if they don't want to do it, find some one else!

thanks for your responses ladies- I think I might just tell them about the history in my family and if my uterus is measuring large...ask for an U/S....I'd like to know one way or another. Thanks again!
