Hearbeat At 7 Weeks

I was supposed to be 8 weeks, they did a va___al u/s and said I was more like 7 and they could't pick up a hearbeat. They said the sac was too big and the baby too small so it was a definite m/c because no heartbeat. Is it possible to not pick up the heartbeat at 7 weeks, could they be wrong?

I heard the heartbeat with a doppler at 7.5 weeks, and they told me that was really early. I never had a vag u/s, so I'm not sure on that, but I would ask them to check again before you do anything drastic like D&C...Good Luck!

Hi Dawn, I have had 3 internal u/s and the first one was at about 7 weeks, they were able to see the sac but no heartbeat then, I freaked and worried myself sick, I went back 3 or 4 days later and there was a beautiful heartbeat. Try to stay positive. I have seen the heartbeat a few times now. Good Luck!

Really? My doctor is talking about doing a d&c on Tuesday if I want. Should I ask for another scan first? I think I'm going to wait this out at least week and then ask for another scan. thanks :)

a d&c on thurs? no way! i'd wait it out and ask for another ultrasound before going through with that. good luck!

Dawn, I am not a doctor, but if it was me, I would have another scan before going through with a D&C, I have even read that a fetal heartbeat through an internal U/S can sometimes not been seen until at least 9 weeks. I wish you the best!

Dawn, read the stories on www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com You are much too early to schedule a D&C or end the pregnancy. Also, ask if you have a tilted uterus. Often women with a tilted uterus (as you'll see at the misdiagnosed site) look one to two weeks behind during the first trimester and then date correctly again during the second trimester. Generally doctors never mention a tilted uterus because it is so common so you have to ask. Hang in there.

Kay you are so right, I have a tilted uterus and that is probably why the first time they were not able to detect the heartbeat with me. I think Dawn you really need to go for a second opinion.

Thanks everyone, I am definitely going to wait another week and ask for another scan. I did have some light spotting as well (which has now stopped) i think this is why the doctors were so quick to say it was a m/c. But I am going to wait this out and try for the heartbeat again. thanks again.

I *saw* the heartbeat on the ultrasound at 7.5 weeks, but the doctor said that it's almost impossible to hear the heartbeat then. I don't know if it's true or not...the first time I heard my baby's h/b was at 9 weeks. I say that you have someone else to check it because you never know if the baby is gonna grow or not.

Yes, v.possible to be wrong!!!! DOn't worry, my 1st v____al scan I was 7wks and 3days and they said it was UNLIKLEY to see the heart beat....I went back 2 weeks later and there it was....Don't worry too much

Wow this is amazing, because the doctor who came in and looked at the ultrasound was convinced, he said if they can pick up the heartbeat starting at about 5 weeks ( and I was 7) so he was sure I would miscarry. I'm so glad to hear all this and I will try not too worry and just wait a bit longer. this is great to hear.

Also my doctor has not measured my hormone levels, so I'm just not convinced they have done everything they should and they are being hasty in suggesting a d&c. I hope it works out but of course I am also prepared that it might not.

Dawn make sure you update us. Stay strong, and I hope this all works out for the best!
