I Need Some Clothing Tips For My Expanding Belly

I'm 7 weeks pregnant an as I eat throughout the day my waist probably expands 5 sizes! Then in the morning when I wake up all is back to normal. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm not sure what to do, my normal clothes are fitting and are just not looking like they used to on me. Also, the weather is starting to warm up here in Colorado and I really can't put on sweaters to hide my "curves." Any suggestions or outfit ideas I can work with without buying too much this early?

i am about ten weeks and i favor lounge pants. not really sweats, but yoga pants and t-shirts. i have some jeans that were too big for me pre-pregnancy that i still can wear. but all my other pants are so darn uncomfortable i can't stand wearing them. i don't plan on wearing mat pants if i can avoid it, but if i have to i'll wait until i am really showing. in the morning, you weigh the least so it's no big thing that your waist is smaller. sometimes i'll put on jeans in the morning that are fine, but by mid afternoon i am already unb___toning them. i think target and gap have mat clothes that probably aren't too expensive...good luck!

I'm 13w (yay!) and bought a pair of mat pants to celebrate my 12w mark. I got them from "thyme maternity" (cnada only) and they are awesome! They're the 3 in 1 type banded top that you fold down. My low rise jeans are ok still, but I need a belt for them and they're not too comfortable with a belt. I also bought a few long tshirts and tanks from a teen shop - 2 for 15.99 and they will probably see me through for another few months. All of my shirts are starting to get a bit 'short' in front :)

hey honey. i have been having the same issues. i am 10 weeks, but i have been having the same problem since like 6 weeks due to bloating. my stomach looks almost normal in the morning except for a small bulge at the bottom of my tummy and then at night i look 5 months pregnant! it is very frustrating. i find that wearing overalls is comfortable. i got some maternity overalls and they are not so saggy like maternity pants. and i have som skirts that i can still wear if i pull them way up, but i just cover them up with my shirt. its a very difficult time when it comes to clothes...

Yep, same here. I'm 13 weeks and after I eat I swear I look 5 months pregnant! I've been using the good old rubber band trick with my jeans - instead of b___toning them, fasten them at the top with a stretchy rubber band. Works wonders for now! I plan to order some maternity pants next week (I need longs - I am 6 feet tall, so the only place I can really go to get them is gap.com and they are expensive but ADORABLE!) I also hear good things about target and i've even heard that wal mart has come out with a cute new maternity line. They might have some good tanks and things. Also like snowball, I put yoga pants on immediately after I get home from work! They are so comfy. :-)

Hi ValChil, I am also 7 weeks. I have the exact problem. I wake up in the morning, feel great and can eat whatever. No matter what I eat for dinner though, salad to steak, I get nauseous, indigestion, and I can't b___ton my pants that fit me fine that morning. I'm going to invest in a couple of maternity pants so that doesn't keep me home. I stayed home from an evening out Sun. night because I couldn't find any pants I could b___ton! I'm asking all my friends that recently had a baby to borrow their clothes, to tide me over till I get mine.

Thanks ladies! I actually went out today and bought some Spring shirts (not maternity) that are pretty loose fitting and flowy which, lucky for me, seems to be the style now. I don't think I can wear maternity pants yet, they seem too big still. Has anyone ever used that belt that adds a panel of fabric to your pants? Let me know, and if so does it work well?

Hi Everyone! I am 10 weeks now with the same clothing trouble, I just ordered some mat clothes from Old Navy and they are great! They were pretty inexpensive and the sizes are pretty true to scale. Good Luck!

Hi ValChil! I have the exact same problem too. Today my hisband and I went out to eat and I had to unb___ton my pants in the car :). In the morning I'm pretty close to my normal size....hopefully for a while still (I'm 8 wks). I live in Colorado too, where do you live?

ValChil - March 29

I have heard really good things about Old Navy's maternity line, I just get nervous about buying that stuff without trying it on. Hey squished...I'm in Parker...where are you?

honker - March 29

Snowball, KimL and Angelinakai, I am having the same problem. I am just past 11 weeks. I have been wearing all of my pants that have spandex/stretchy fabric. It is really quite amazing how many fabrics they put stretchy material into - I have cords, dress pants, jeans etc. Over the pants go long shirts. I like the "flowy" idea! I think soon I will have to hit the maternity store . . . stretchy only stretchies so far :0

ValChil...I'm in Colorado Springs! That would've been cool if we were in the same spot. I'm holding out as long as I can before I have to go buy new pants.

tHE THE BELLY BAND UNTIL YOUR READY FOR MATERNITY PANTS.

Susan W - March 30

One word. BellaBand. Love it. I wear my regular pants, unfastened, but the BellaBand covers up the fact that my pants are not fastened and smooth all the lumps and bumps out. Google it, or check out eBay. Great for first trimester when your clothes just don't fit right but you don't want to go buy stuff you're not going to wear for more than 3 months (I'm cheap and hate mat clothes anyway). Or if you are wearing mat pants and they are a bit too big still. .. . .I did like my Target mat clothes the first time around, and they aren't too expensive. I think their jeans are the best ones in a reasonable price range. Gap is fashionable, but my legs swelled too, and I couldn't fit in them by 4 months. But most of the time -- even at the end of my first pregnancy -- I just wore yoga pants and T shirts in XL size, even to work!

Lilu - March 30

SORRY... GET THE BELLY BAND, I GOT MINE FROM PEA IN THE POD. BUT IM SURE IF YOU TYPE IT IN ONLINE IT WILL COME UP. IT BASICALLY LOOKS LIKE A TUBE TOP, YOU WHERE OVER THE TOP OF YOUR PANTS SO YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR PANTS UNBUTTONED. I ALSO DID THE RUBBER BAND TRICK LIKE KIM L. SO DO THAT WITH YOUR JEANS AND GET THE BELLY BAND FOR YOUR RESS STUFF. GOOD LUCK.

ValChil - March 30

I'm liking the sound of the Belly Band. I really don't want to buy Mat clothes just yet. Thanks Lilu and Susan, I'll definitely check it out! I agree with you too Squished, I really dont want to invest in those clothes until I absolutely have to. Are you a CO native? I am =)

squished - April 3

I've never heard of the band before. What an awesome thing....I can still wear my normal jeans and not have my tummy feel compressed by the end of the day! Woohoo! No, I'm not a CO native. I'm actually a FL native :) We moved out here a few years ago and are trying to get back to the humidity. With now being pregnant I feel like a lizard my skin is so dry. I'm trying to drink as much water as I'm supposed too but it doesn't seem to help. Lotion and lip balm have become my new best friends.
