Lmp 9 Weeks Ultrasound Showing 6 5 With Heartbeat

First ultrasound was at lmp 5.5 weeks. Ultrasound showed 4.5 week fetus. Went back yesterday for ultrasound at lmp 9.5 weeks and ultrasound showed a 6.5 week fetus with a strong heartbeat. OB says it doesn't look like pregnancy is going in a good direction and I will probably miscarry within the next few weeks. I'm scheduled for a followup ultrasound in 2 weeks to see if things have improved. Has anyone been in this situation? What was the outcome? Is there any chance with fetal development that delayed that the baby will be healthy? Thanks!

Anybody?

According to the doc's dates, it should have been 8 weeks, but even this is behind my own dates. I know when my lmp was and when I ovulated. At best, the fetus is a 1.5 weeks behind normal development. I'm really nervous that I might miscarry, but I'm also nervous that the pregnancy might continue resulting in an unhealthy, probably premature baby.

hi nicole, I'm sorry I will not be of much help, but I can understand your cause for concern. hopefully someone on here has had a similar experience and can offer more advice/hope. With my DD (now 2) at our first u/s, I measured about 1 week behind. However, at 20 weeks, she measured right with my dates, so according to that, your first u/s would not have been much to worry. However, the most recent is a little more behind. The good news is you said their is a strong heart beat....did the doc say why you would have a strong HB, but not measuring well...did s/he offer any other thoughts other than it may not be going in a good direction? Did he test your HCG and progesterone levels?

sorry, few more questions, you said you know when you ovulated, have you been temping, or did you base it on OPKs and/or just ovulation pains? I also had a m/c in December of 07, but the baby didn't measure anywhere near my dates at any time and had a lower heartbeat from the beginning.

one more thing....sorry to post so many replies. You may also want to post your question in the "Signs of Pregnancy forum" Some of the ladies over there who are trying to get pg may have had a similar experience.

We've been trying for 2 years. During that time I've used a combo of bbt, cm, and lh surge predictors. With the exception of one or two cycles the whole two years, I've had 28 day cycles with my period starting exactly 14 days after the second peak day. Because we've been at it so long, I can tell, even if I didn't take the lh surge predictors in a given month, which day I ovulated on, just by cm.

sorry about your loss. I will post in the other forum also. Thanks.

We were in such shock that we didn't ask why there would be a strong hb if things weren't progressing well. She seemed pretty sure the outcome was not going to be a good one. In fact, she wanted to schedule a d&c for the next day, but we decided to wait b/c of the hb. She's not a dr that is overzealous about d&c's either. I've had two previous miscarriages early on and I think she wanted the chance to have the fetal tissue a___lyzed to see what may be causing the problem.

My dh is an md. He agrees with the prognosis, but thinks I should try to miscarry naturally given the risk of scar tissue that could make my chance of carrying to term even worse than what it will be simply by having had multiple miscarriages.

I'm sorry too that you've had losses before. I understand about not thinking to ask the questions at the moment, when you hear the news you don't think of much, at least I didn't. How you proceed, is of course, up to you and DH. I elected to have a D&C just b/c I couldn't handle it emotionally knowing what was going to happen and just waiting. BUT! my situation was different, we heard the HB and then there wasn't one so I knew for a fact I had a m/c. I do strongly encourage/agree with you about not having anything done immediately...there are stories of women being told they had a blighted ovum and then having a healthy baby so had they had the D&C immediately, they would have lost a perfectly healthy child, this could still very well be the case for you. Agreed it looks discouraging, but I you can not give up hope just yet!
