Low Progesterone

I just found out I am about 5 weeks pregnant and my progesterone is only at 8.5 and my hcg levels are going up but not doubling as they should. I am unsure if suppositories will help or if I should just let nature takes its course and that miscarriage is inevitable.

At 5 weeks, my Dr prescribed progesterone suppositories. I am now 12 weeks pregnant (as of tomorrow) and everything is going well.

I wanted to thank everyone for their candid postings on the whole low progesterone thing. I lost my first pregnancy just shy of 7 weeks over this past memorial day. My dr confirmed today that I am indeed pregnant again - 4.5 weeks. I was on 100mg progesterone suppositories when I lost the last pregnancy, and they are putting me on 50mg starting today. After reading all of your postings, I called the dr again to get my actual number - 9.8 with 1200 hcG. I have to wait that long week til the next blood draw. Wish me luck. p.s. Last time, the dr said to me that my pregnancy probably lasted about a week longer than it would have without the suppositories. If the suppositories are going to help, they will. If the pregnancy isn't right, they won't.

I am on 50mg of progesterone suppositories. My levels where at 13, and I'll be having lab work done on Monday to see where my level is. Other then that, has anyone got a yeast infeation from them?

I am so glad that there are web sites like this for women like us! I am 6 weeks pregnant and have low progesterone. In addition I have been spotting for about 1 week. I am starting the suppositories today. I am relieved to hear that it did help for most of you! Thank you for giving me faith!

Your messages are encouraging to me. I am just pregnant and was having cramping. My doctor has me starting progesterone suppositories today. I am worried miscarriage is inevitable. It is good to know that maybe it is not. I guess what is meant to be will be! Thanks

Yes take the medication. I miscarried my first due to low progesterone, then 1 year later I had a healthy baby boy with the help of progesterone the first four months. Now I'm about 3-4 weeks and again my levels are low. I began my meds about 2 weeks ago and so far so good other than light spotting. Good Luck and Congrats

I am going through the same thing right now. I've recently lost one pregnancy and I really don't want to lose this one. My progesterone levels are low (9.4 at 4-5 weeks) and the Dr. has prescribed the progesterone. It is very encouraging to know others are making similar decisions and having similar experiences with success. I'm not sure I'm ready to go through the miscarriage roller coaster again. I'm buying the supositories tonight and getting started.

You see, not only women visit this page. My wife is 4 week pregnant (yeee!!!), this is our first time, and her progesterone level is 16. We were not sure about the progesterone suppositories. We never even used the pill in our 3 years of marriage, because we always tried to keep everything as natural as possible. Now, after reading your messages I feel more secure. I called her at work, and we just decided she will start taking them tomorrow morning.

i took a home test on aug 22 and was positive. on the 25th i went to my doc and had a u/s and seen a sac but no baby, they say this is normal. i was not sure when my lmp was so i guessed, they said about 5 plus weeks, however my progesterone was low they said. could this be because i am not as far along as i guessed? or is it always high any stage of pregnancy. i had a miscarage about a year ago. so this time i am freaking out about everything. is this normal or does it mean another miscarage?

I had suppositories for low progesterone and they didn't work, so I was given shots. I was told that the reason for the low progesterone could be that the pregnancy was not viable or that my body was not doing a good job producing the hormone. Although it was a touchy first trimester, the pregnancy was a success and I have a very healthy baby boy. At the time, I felt that I had nothing to lose by trying the progesterone. Now, I see that I had everything to gain. Good luck.
