My friend has just suffered a miscarriage. She got a D & C, she was told to come back in six weeks to ensure that all the placenta or afterbirth as she was told was gone. They then said that if it was not all gone she may have to undergo chemo or a hysterectomy. She is very upset & confused at this time. I have never heard of this. Did she mishear or are there further problems? please let me know

If she requires a hysterectomy then something would be seriously wrong. In most cases if a piece of the placenta remains after a D&C it's flushed out by the body naturally, but if it's not then another D&C might be required.
