Need Help With A Decision

I'm pregnant again after a miscarriage (4wks 2 days). I've never been "diagnosed" with low pregesterone - maybe because its never been checked. My miscarriage was attributed to a chromosome defect... (blah. blah. blah.) Now, learning that I'm pregnant again, I asked my OB about any supplements that I could possibly take to prevent another miscarriage. He said that he'd prescribe some Prometrium (a "natural" progesterone) and I could take it "if I wanted to." Do I take this ? Could it cause birth defects ? I've read where synthetic progesterone can cause some birth defects. So, I'm afraid that I could screw up by taking it or not taking it.... My OB said that it was my decision. He didn't think it was necessary, but didn't think it would hurt either. Any advice ?

Hi Just thought id let u know i am 9 weeks 2 days.I have been on natural progesterone since week 6.With natural progesterone there is no side affects besides maybe makin your pregnancy symptoms more noticable. It is the same kind of hormone u have in your own body.Using the synthetic(fake)progesterone on the other hand has lots of different side affects. The natural is made out of a yam plant.Ask your doctor about it.Good luck with your pregnancy.
