hiya all - i am six weeks pregnant today and i went for a scan yesterday i had an external scan as i had a miscarriage last year they wanted to do an early scan. during the scan she found a regular shaped gestational sac - a small baby and the flutter of the heartbeat could be seen but she pointed out she couldnt find the yolk sac anywhere ?? she said i wunder where it could be but couldnt see it anywhere ? i am starting to get worried now even though we seen the flutter of the heartbeat - what will happen if there is no yolk sac ? she didnt seem worried as she said everything looks fine and there was a heartbeat ? - can my baby live without 1 ??? she said it must be behind the tiny baby or something ? has anybody else been in this position before i am really worried ? thanxs any help would be appreciated xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

venza, don't worry! :) Like the tech said, it was probably hiding. Did you say they did an EXTERNAL scan at 6 weeks? If so, then that could be a good reason why it wasn't seen. At 6 weeks I had a trans-v____al u/s and don't think they'd have been able to see anything at all if they had done it out on my belly. Seeing the heartbeat is exactly what you want to see and it sounds like everything is perfect! I don't know that the baby would even be growing, developing and have a heartbeat without a yolk sac so I wouldn't worry...it is very small at this stage. Congrats!
