i have been offered the nuchal scan, which gives you a high or low risks of some abnormalities, mainly downs syndrome. If it comes back as a high risks you are then offered amniocentesies which can then tell you for definete.I did not have this choice with my first 6 1/2 yrs ago.I am now 29 yrs and 10 weeks so i need to make a decision but i don't know what to do.I don't know whether i could go through with the amnio the huge needle the 1% risk of miscarriage i've had one mc.Can they tell of certain abnormalitys from the normal 18-20 week scan?

When I was about 18 weeks with my twins I was given the same ultrasound. The Dr. said my babys most definitly had down syndrom and spna bifida. He said he saw too much fluid in the brain and and calcium deposits in the heart. and that was not normal. I was only 22 yearls old so it was not my age. He recomended I have an abortion. That was not an option for me so I was pressured into an amniocentisis. I had to get get Poked in both sacs. Luckily I did not miscarry. Well anyways they called me 2 weeks later and said thaht my babys were healthy and normal, then they did another U/s 2 weeks later and the water was gone and so were the calcium deposits were gone. I was put through soo much stress for nothing. I am now 12 weeks pregnant again and am going to refuse any of those tests.
