Painting Bedroom Is It Safe

Hi - A few weeks ago, my neighbors upstairs had some plumbing problems and damage was caused in our bedroom and now we need to repaint. The painter is coming next week and is painting our bedroom and the guest bedroom (soon to be nursury, I guess!!) Is it safe to have the rooms painted now (I really can't wait - the apartment has been a mess from the work we had to have done). I am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and I won't be home while they are doing the painting but will be sleeping in the apartment (on the couches) at night. I have not had any nausea yet so smells have not been a major issue. I am more concerned about the toxins. Any advice?

I painted my kitchen when I was just weeks pregnant (didn't know I was pregnant yet), painted my bathroom when I was about 3 months pregnant and painted my son's nursery when I was 8 months pregnant and didn't have any problems. Just read the cans to see if they have any warnings for pregnant women. If it makes you feel better, you could find a place to stay for a few days.

My Dr. said it was fine to help paint the nursery...that virtually all interior paints are safe these days. She did say it was a good idea to paint on nice days so that you could open the windows for ventilation...so, I think you should be just fine...especially since you are not doing the painting! :)

Thanks - I feel better about the work being done now. This site is fantastic.
