Pre Existing Problems With Pregnancy

Hi there :) I have some pre existing conditions which are making my m/s worse. Before I was pregnant, I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (Acid Reflux disease which damages the esophagus). Now that I'm prego, I haven't been taking my meds that I was taking to help that. I don't have a dr's appt for another week or so and I am absolutely DYING! I read that Tums are ok to take, then others say its dangerous. I heard that Zantac and Pepcid AC are ok, but others say its dangerous too. So i don't know what to take! Ive resorted to ginger ale and cold water/milk (which doesn't help much at all. I may just take tums anyway cuz I can't take much more of this. The G.E.R.D makes me nauseous anyway without medication so my m/s is 100 times worse. Any suggestions or anyone have these problems too? Thanks :)

I also have HORRIBLE heartburn. My Dr. told me it was completely fine to take Tums...or even Maalox. I also try having a large glas of milk before bed, and I prop my self up with pillows when I sleep. If nothing else works, talk with your doctor, and she can prescribe you something safe during pregnancy! Good luck!

I have taken Tums before, and I heard Maalox was ok too, just stay away from med.s with asprin (many otc stomach med.s have asprin in them...) Milk does coat the stomach, but may also cause irritation and create more acid. I would recommend to ditch the milk...Not to mention that the protines in milk are large, and hard to digest, and that could cause your IBS to flair as well...good luck, and feel better!

TUMs and rolaids, etc are fine! Just dont take anything that contains asprin, or ibuprophen. Check out BabyCenter . com There is a section in there that answers hundreds of safety questions for pregnant women.

Thanks gals! And over the past week or so, my morning (all day) sickness has seemed to have gotten alot worse. Uggg, I'm praying for my doctors visit to be soon so I can find out how much more of this first trimester hell I have to put up with! lol
