Hi all- went to er today and they did ultrasound but wouldnt let me look!! =( They got a hb though, and there is only one baby, looks healthy =) I have been having tons of cramping, i am almost 11 weeks. Anyone else having a lot of cramping around this time??

Bellas Mom - February 14

Hi Charee, I can't believe they didn't let you peek....! That's so mean... I bet none of them have ever been pregnant and dying to see their little bean.... anyway, about the cramping, I have it on and off, not so much this time. But I feel it most when I have a busy day lugging around my 20lb 14-month-old.... I swear she senses something is up, so she constantly wants to be carried and loved. I don't mind since I know she's only this small once and later I'll have to divide the attention. But at the end of the day I'm cramping and sometimes get sharp pains here and there too.... Always something to worry about, but I put my mind to focus on the good things and stay positive. I'm sure it's just your body adjusting, and I remember around 13-14 wks last time around I had BAD cramping and those sharp ligament pains from your uterus stretching, so just hang in there, I'm pretty sure it's normal.

Hello ladies!! 9w4d. ALL day sickness. Yesterday I didn't hold down one thing all day. no food...no liquid. Dr. is closed today because of weather. :( We can't even leave the house because of snow emergency. I'm stuck here sick. only 3 more weeks until the 2nd tri!

Charee, I can't believe they didn't let you see the baby on the u/s. How cruel? What was their reasoning behind this? I mean for goodness sake, you are paying for the d__n u/s the least they could do is let you see it! Anyway, my m/s hasn't been bad but in the last week, I've noticed that icky feeling in my mouth (as if I want to throw up but never do). The only thing that seems to get me through it is sour things: lemons, sour hard candy, vinegar-y salad dressing. Anyone crave/need sour foods like me? I think it's strange, but my mom said the only thing she could hold down when she was PG with me was lemons and RC cola. Isn't that funny?

fatboy - February 14

Charee, I am sure that the cramping is just ligaments stretching. I was told that if I had sharp pains more than 4 times in an hour to head to the er, otherwise not to worry. This should tell you that the cramping is very normal! Hailsa, sorry to hear you're having such a rough time with the ms. I hope things get better soon! Ginger, it's funny that you just mentioned your mother's input. Not that your mother is like this, but I have been aggravated with my mother for the entire pregnancy. She's one of those that puts her two cents in on EVERYTHING! I'll start the conversation with my headaches and nausea or the funny cravings and before I know it we're talking about her back aches and high blood pressure or her nausea and headaches when she was pregnant. How does she even remember a pregnancy that took place almost 30 years ago? Does anybody else have an overbearing mother like me? Sorry for the venting, just need advice!

Hey Dawn- I thought I'd reply/post here since it looks like part 2 has come to an end (thanks Bellas Mom for starting a new one). Anyway...YAY! Dawn I am very excited and happy for you that your u/s went well. That is so great! You must feel very relieved that all is going so well. Congratulations! And a BIG THANK YOU for asking your Dr. about the heart rate of my little bean :) That was so kind and thoughtful of you. As for hearing it at 7.5 weeks...this may sound dumb...but is a doppler what they use to hear it on an abdominal ultrasound? That's how they heard mine, just while doing the ultrasound. In any case, I'm just so glad I was able to hear it! On another note, has anyone else had a problem with burping? For some reason I burp all the time now. I know it's common to have gas during pregnancy, but I thought that was mostly out the other end? I'm finding that I can't eat anything with a strong taste because I'll be burping it up for hours afterwards. I miss garlic!!!

Hi Everyone. I went to the doctor again on the 7th of this month and she just felt around and said everything was looking good and all my bloodwork was perfect. She didn't try to hear a heartbeat, don't know why becauseI was 9 and a half weeks, but she said we'd be able to hear it next time. I'll almost be 14 weeks then. So I'm really looking forward to March 7th! My nausea has gotten little worse and I've been getting sick more. I don't even want to look at food or hear about it. lol. But I hope everyone else is doing good!

Dawn, I don't have a mother like that, but I have a mother in law like that, *urgh!!* So annoying. She was all up on my first pregnancy and has already started on this one. And if her advice was any good, but noooo. She told me I should die my roots because my hair doesn't look good. I told her I would wait at least after my first trimester if not a little longer, and she questions me all the time, but why, but why.... "I dyed my hair with my pregnancies, etc, etc..." Well that was you and this is me.... to each their own! She also opposes lots of my mothering choices, just so I give you one example - b___stfeeding. She wanted me to stop within the first 6 months for whatever reason.... I wanted to continue, and so did my baby, you know, so BUTT OUT! You'll see, it just never stops from this "older" crowd. They think that they're older and more experienced (which is true) but modern medicine has changed and doctor's advices have too, so I'll follow what they say, plus a little of my own instincts..... all this to say - I understand your frustrations.

Peachtree - burping is a big problem for me too (and sorry if this is TMI - but farting is a problem too. Only towards the end of the day, but I'm so ga__sy, yuk!) I think all your insides are getting moved around or whatever, but it seems to be a problem "throughout" the whole pregnancy. And about the u/s, that's what I figured when you said you heard it at 7.5 weeks. The doppler is just and outside instrument they use just to hear the heartbeat and nothing else, that's pretty hard to catch below 9 weeks or so, they say 10-12 is the earliest. But not with u/s, if it has an output like that, then the hb can be heard even earlier, I think.

fatboy - February 14

Peachtree, I have been on cloud nine since yesterday morning and it was no problem asking about the heart rate. As far as the burping goes, I have the exact same thing. Mine sometimes turns into heartburn though. Burping helps to get the gas up to keep your heartburn from coming or getting any worse. That's probably what it is. Also, if you're asking if the doppler and u/s deally is the same thing, I guess it can be. The machines they used on me were different though. Okay, got a question. I get fever blisters and my doc had prescribed Valtrex for me. This has been several years ago. Anyway, I am to take the Valtrex when I feel a fever blister coming on. My body was getting ammune to just 1 pill, so I had gotten to where I would take 2 or 3 and it would knock the fever blister out. The higher dosage never hurt me. My doc told me Valtrex is Cla__s B so it's okay to take it while pregnant. So, this morning...early, I woke up and felt the tingling, ran in the bathroom and popped 2 of the 1000mg pills without even thinking! By the time I had realized what I had done, I had already swallowed them. I immediately got on the internet and looked up info on it. I haven't found any bad information. They say it's okay to take it in moderation. But, that wasn't technically in moderation. Does anyone else take this medication? Do you think it will be okay?

Peachtree - February 14

Hey Bellas Mom- thanks for explaining the doppler thing. And I'm happy to hear I'm not alone in the burping thing (not that I'm happy that you and Dawn have it too...I'm just happy that I know it's normal!) Dawn, I don't know the answer to your question about Valtrex, but if your doctor said it was ok to take during pregnancy, then it should be ok. I think taking 2 pills would still be 'in moderation', but I can't say that for sure. I'd think what they would mean is, don't take 10! It would probably make you feel alot better to just call your doctors office and see if they can get you an answer without having to go in for an appointment. Try not to worry too much about it for now- I know that's always easier said than done though.

Bellas Mom - February 14

Dawn, I don't know about the valtrex either. You should try to speak to your doctor. But I'm sure that there are other medications out there that are far more dangerous and women have to take it. They say that if the benefits out weigh the risks, in case of your health and such, then you should take it. But this once shouldn't be a problem if your doc said it was fine to begin with....

Ginger, With my 1st child all I craved was lemons and tomatoes. I would be driving down the street and pa__s a grocery store and have to a u-turn cause I got that want for a lemon. With this pregnancy I have only been wanting mashed potatoes. By the way all I am new to this forum. I am due Sept 23rd. and praying this one makes it. I had 2 miscarriages in 05' and 06'. I do not go to the dr until 2/20 so I am anxiously waiting. I feel alot better about this one. Hope all is well with all of you and happy 9 months.

Longingfor1 - February 14

Hi everyone. My doctor gave me a due date of Sep 25, so i guess i fall in this category of Sep Mommies :) I am 8 weeks now but my doc havnt yet done any u/s. Is that ok? when shud the 1st u/s be ideally done? Can u pls share ur knowlege on this? This is my first one - so i have no clue abt anythng!

ginger6363 - February 14

sfrog68, that's so funny that you crave lemons and tomatoes, that's exactly what I've been craving---lemons with salt and tomatoes with vinegar salad dressing. In fact, I had a whole bowl of cherry tomatoes yesterday night. Our bodies are such mysteries! Longing, my doctor didn't do an u/s on me until 8 wks, but I've heard it common for some doctors not to do an u/s until 10-12 wks. It's all based on your doctor's preference.

Hailsa24 - February 14

Longing- I am 9 w 5d and I scheduled my first u/s for MAY 7th. I don't get one until 22 weeks to find out the s_x! Talk about the torture!! I get to hear the h.b for the first time on Feb.26th! AHHH I'm going crazy to hear that little thump!
