Standing While Pregnant

Hi everyone, I am four weeks pregant and recently began working the registar at Kohl's. I took this part time job to keep my mind off of the fact that I couldn't get pregnant. Now that I am, I am wondering if standing is a bad idea. I told my boss to put me on four hour shifts a couple days a week, at least until I get passed the first trimester. What do you think. Does anybody else stand on their feet without problems? I asked the nurse and she said standing is fine. Any info would be appreciated.

Standing isn't a problem, sweetheart. Its what we do, its how are bodies are build... To stand! Unless you develop a problem that would require bedrest of some type (that your DOCTOR prescribes!), you don't need to worry. Many women work jobs that require standing even until their due dates.

Standing for that amount of time should be no problem. It won't hurt your pregnancy, but later on it can cause circulation problems and varicose veins--but only if you stand in one position for a long time. I have a friend who is a hair stylist and she developed very bad varicose veins and also problems in her feet while pregnant. But what you described and at your stage I really wouldn't worry. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

You should be perfectly fine to work a longer shift than that if you like. I'm sure you get at least one break for lunch where you can sit down. If you're at a register, you could also sit on a stool inbetween ringing people up if your boss is ok with it.
