At my u/s visit yesterday they measured the baby at 10w2d. I looked online at some sites to find out more information for this week but got confused. I went to "your pregnancy" 10 weeks, and it said fetus would be 8 w now. Then I went to "your baby at 10 weeks" and it said I would be in my 12th week. So which is it? Am I 10w2d or starting my 2nd tri at 12w? I want to be informed of where I am at in the pg. Thank you ladies for your help.

Cathy - this would be my guess (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). The baby is 10 wks, therefore you are 12 wks pg. YOU are considered 2 weeks more pg than the baby is "old". I've read that you start your 2nd trimester when YOU are 13 weeks.

I dont think that is correct. I am 10 weeks pregnant today, so I would be in my 11th week since technically 10 weeks one day would no longer be 10 weeks. We are given 2 extra weeks but the baby is only 8 weeks gestational age not 12 weeks. The second trimester starts at 13 weeks which will be when you complete your 12th week. Now someone correct me if I am wrong.

huh? So you are saying that Cathy is 11 weeks and her baby is only 8 even though it measures 10 weeks? Now I am confused as well.

I'm still confused. I do go to the doctor this afternoon and I will ask her, I was just curious. I'll let you know what she says tomorrow. Thank you for your responses

HOW FAR ALONG IS MY PREGNANCY? Physicians determine the age of an embryo/fetus from the date of the first day of the mother's last normal menstrual period (i.e., the first day of bleeding). Why? Because way back when, before ultrasound, the only objective way to reasonably accurately know where a woman was in her menstrual cycle, was to know the day she began her flow (Day 1). (Conception usually occurs around Day 14, or two weeks into the cycle.) Consequently, even though we can tell with substantial certainty when conception probably took place, we still give age from the last normal menstrual period. It's a little confusing, but that's the way it is. Forgive us. Since we use the first day of the last normal menstrual cycle to determine the age of the embryo/fetus, we call this measurement MENSTRUAL AGE. For example, if conception occurred 8 weeks before an ultrasound scan, we would say that the fetus is 10 weeks old menstrual age. (remember, conception occurs approximately 2 weeks after the first day of the menstrual period.) Incidentally and interestingly, conception may not occur on the day of intercourse. It may occur within several days of intercourse. This is due to the fact that the sperm and egg may take some time to find each other and the sperm can live for several days within a woman. This is from a website!! maybe it will clarify for all of us.

The doctor told me that I am 10w2day pg. The baby is also 10w2day. She kind of laughed when I asked her. By the way everything is looking good! : )
