Timing Of First OB Visit

Hello - I'm 8 wks pregnant and my GYN does not do OB, but he is part of a large practice with other physicians who do. I saw him at 6 weeks and he told me to wait another 4 weeks before the first OB visit. Is this normal? He only did a pregnancy test and pelvic exam, nothing else. I'm just concerned because I'm 37 and have already had two miscarriages, and don't want to wait too long. I already have a gut feeling that something has gone terribly wrong, especially since it took two weeks after my period was due to have a positive pregnancy test. Thanks!

I am 5 weeks pregnant and my Doctor will not see me for an u/s until between 8 and 12 weeks. I will be having my first u/s around 9 weeks and have heard that this is normal. I am going to see my Doctor on Tuesday because I have so many questions since this is my first pregnancy. I was told that they won't even be doing a test since I have had 3 +'s at home but I still plan to ask for one, just to see that things are progressing normally. Congratulations and best of luck to you!

Jenna, I am almost 10 weeks and my first appointment isn't until my 11 week mark. Do you have any symtoms of being pregnant? Don't worry about things too much. If something is going to go wrong the doctors can't do much to stop it. Just pray a lot. Good Luck and keep us all informed!!!!

hi jenna, I'm so sorry for your miscarriages. I know where youre coming from as I'v had one and am extremely fearful of having another. I'm sorry you had to suffer through 2. Third time is a charm though, keep thinking that. I'm 36 and although my GP said I'm "high risk" because I conceived 2 weeks after I miscarried, she still coudln't get me an appointment any earlier with an OB. I'm seeing an OB at 13 weeks! Sounds crazy, but I think if theyre busy they let you stew for a while and wait to see if you WILL have a m/c, sorry to say. If you WERE going to have one, they probably coudln't stop it. The only other thing I can suggest is to go to your ER and pretend that youre in pain and say that youre pregnant and worried about miscarrying. Thats a quick if not devious way to get someone to look at you.

Thank you all for your responses! No, I have ZERO pregnancy symptoms other than extreme moodiness towards my husband (like PMS) and big b___sts. And to top it all off, all 3 times I have been pregnant, I had a picture from a v____al scan by this time! Eight weeks along and I have NOTHING to solidify this. I woke up yesterday and "knew" something was wrong. I lost 5-10 lbs., (have NOT had any morning sickness whatsoever), my b___sts were back to their pre-pregnancy size, and my belly had flattened up. I'm just waiting for something to happen. You all are right, if something IS going to happen, no one can do anything to stop it. I just hate the thought of carrying a baby who has already pa__sed as that is what happened in both prior instances. I thought about going to the ER - good one Angie!! My luck good old BCBS would determine that it was not an emergency and deny the claim. Thanks again for your posts, and best of luck to all of you as well! I'm so thankful to have found this site, but on the other hand, some of it scares the heck out of me.

Hi, I had a previous miscarriage at eight weeks. I am now on week twelve of my second preg. I know how it feels to have to wait for an ultra sound. However, many Dr.s don't want to schedule a first ob visit before the time when you would have had your second missed period. This is because miscarriages are most likely before then. Don't take it personally. Of course if you have any bleeding or anything abnormal happening then that's different. But I know it isn't uncommon for a Dr. to schedule you for your first appt. around ten weeks. I know- the waiting is torture. If you are not having any bleeding I would try to think positive and just be patient. Time will tell, and if it's meant to be, it will all be fine. Good luck with your pregnancy, I will pray that this time it works out for you.

Jenna, how are you today? Best of luck to you! By the way, my OB waits until about 8 weeks. However, with a history of miscarriage, they should be seeing you NOW! Call and demand they get you in. Do to them what angie was talking about doing at the ER. That is a good way to get what you want. Get as devious as you want. This is your baby!! Good luck!!

Thanks V.H. and ~m~! You all are absolutely wonderful! I called for my first OB appt and they offered me something in two weeks! Thank you, NO! So the soonest they can see me is 3/7. I'm scared shi*less too - feels like I'm going down that all to familiar path again, but with a different doctor. I dread that visit, but what else am I going to do, right? I guess I'll find out exactly what's happening then. God bless you all, and I wish the very best to you! I'll check in again. Thanks for your posts!

Keep your chin up girlfriend! I know the anxiety that comes along with pregnancy after miscarriage. It's a scary place, but you have us to talk to anytime! Try not to worry ok! If you start to spot or anything, go in immediately and demand they see you. Otherwise, just take it easy and stay positive! Keep us posted! I'll be thinking of you girl!! ((((HUGS))))
