To All Who Have Bled

To all of those who experienced bleeding during their pregnancy, even if it was just like you had an actual period-like bleeding for the first few months... did the blood smell differently than your normal period? (sorry if TMI). How many of you have bled period-like your first few months?

anybody??

I had a little brown spotting (usually just on the tissue) ot at all like a period from weeks 4-7. My doctor suspected that it was late implantation bleeding and said some women can have this all throughout their 1st trimester. He said it was normal and there was nothing to worry about, unless the blood was red, heavy, and accompanied by cramping. I am 9 wks now and saw my baby twice (very healthy). I haven't had any spotting since week 7. I didn't notice any smell, but I didn't really try to smell it either.

i haven't noticed a different smell to the blood, no...but if you do then its possible you could have an infection because that can cause a different odor, particularly if you notice it's a bad smell. I have had spotting on and off and so far everything has been ok, I have a dr appointment on Monday though and will be keeping everyone on here up to date with what happens.

I have had period like bleeding since Jan 1st I am currently 12 weeks. I was diagnosed with a subchoronic hematoma so i understand about the bleeding but there no different odor to it. If you are bleeding make sure you see your doctor. Good luck to you.

i never noticed a different smell to the blood....but mine wasn't period like it was intermitent for the entire first trimester.

Thanks for all your responses. It probably doesn't really smell that bad -- everything seems to just smell really weird to me lately (I was driving home last night after working out & almost puked from my own body odor) lol. Anyways, not sure if any of you read my other posts or not, but I have EVERY symptom in the book....& have always had regular 28 day cycles except the occasional one day late here & there. This month, af never came on the 2nd & didn't start until this morning (6 days late), but it's not really like my regular af at all. I'm barely bleeding into my pad & seem to mostly bleed into the toilet when I urinate (sorry if TMI..but it gets worse)....& that's not even like blood..just globs. When I wipe myself with the tissue paper, there is little bits & pieces of tissue..which I also NEVER have & the blood is a really dark dark reddish brown color....which I also have never had. All my symptoms are still here, though, with the nausea & headaches seeming to be getting worse. I'm just not sure what's going on & I can't get to the doctor any time soon as I'm currently not covered. My HPT I took the other day was a light ..VERY light positive, but it was within the time frame. Also, I AM cramping....but have been cramping off & on since a week before af was due (so around two weeks). Sorry this was so long.

Alright....me again. I am really getting worried now. I am completely done with everything...no blood anymore ...nothing. Actually seems to have never been blood as everything was so dark. My pad...which is the only one I have used as this stuff started this morning around 9am...is brown. You can't see any red whatsoever & there's not much on there at all? What happened....could that have been a miscarriage?? With as little that has come out of me -- no "flow" whatsoever? Symptoms still here...feel like I'm going to puke right now - but I think it's all nerves maybe?? I don't know -- this is our first. Help!

I'm been reading everything I can on miscarriages to see if pa__sing teeny dark clots off & on for 12 hrs. means anything... & I found this saying "raw beef chunks"...that's EXACTLY what the teeny clots looked like...the raw beef chunks like in dog food.. Anybody?

jessicaspatherapist - February 8

why don't you go to the ER?

crackersforme - February 8

right now it's too expensive -- although I was considering it because I could pay later, but I'm not really in any pain

ChattyKathy - February 8

They wont be able to do anything for you if you are having a miscarriage other than to confirm it. $300 dollars for a doctor to take some blood, look inside, and basically say I lost it. For me, the red blood lasted a few days and did have those little black spots in them. I did notice it smelled a little stronger than a normal period, probably because of the tissue being pa__sed as well. Bleeding lasted a little longer than a normal period. Of course everyones is different... I'm sorry you're having to go through this.

Also, with mine, I should mention that I felt a burning sensation inside. It usually got worse when I stood for a long time or walked around too much. That was my cervix being open. You may want to check that manually if you don't feel pain. And also the bleeding was combined with cramps. Do get it checked out if you can, though, because some women on these boards have blood in their uterus but still a healthy baby. They are doing great with bed rest. Its best to know whats going on.

Hi crackers.....I'm from the Pregnancy loss/Miscarriage thread that you posted in asking us to come here to read this one. Sometimes when the baby implants into the uterus, it does so where there is a blood vessel and it ruptures causing some light bleeding or spotting. With you pa__sing some small clot-like tissue, I would be a little more concerned. It sounds as if you are not very far along yet since you said you are only 6 days late for af. I had an ectopic pg two years ago and when I went to the ER they admitted me into the hospital right away. My ob said my tube was only a few hours away from bursting and that because I was in so much pain that I was about 7 weeks pg. They did a urine hpt which showed up a very dark positive. I kept arguing with them saying there was no way I was pg because I just had a period two weeks prior, even though it was a light one. I made them give me a hpt and I went and peed on it myself, lol. You CAN bleed and be pregnant, but it's not considered a period because you're not shedding your uterine lining. I think at this early stage you are at, it would be difficult to distinguish what it is that you expelled while in the bathroom. If you were 3 weeks later in the pg, you would know if you m/c'ed. I guess you can't really tell until you see a doctor. If you take a hpt to try to compare it to the other one like you mentioned, make sure it's the same brand. Different brands have different strengths. If it is alot lighter, or no line at all, most likely it was a m/c. The symptoms will hang around for a while after a m/c, as long as the hormone is in your system. Once it goes down to normal, the symptoms will go away. Good luck to you and if you have anymore questions feel free to stop by the 'Wanting to try again' thread. Best wishes.

Thanks ChattyKathy & KitCat for both of your replies. The bleeding stopped yesterday evening, but then started back up, but slowly overnight...was two drops on my pad in the morning. I'm currently just bleeding very little into the pad (mostly into the toilet when I urinate)..but the blood IS a distinguishable red color now. Also, I do believe I did feel that burning yesterday morning, right after I started the bleeding -- but it only lasted for a little bit (maybe an hr.), so I'm not sure if that's the same as you were explaining or not. My stomachs been in knots over this so who knows anymore if I have pregnancy symptoms or I'm just making myself sick. I just wish I would either get a full flowing period or the bleeding would stop...I have NO cramping whatsoever now (slight pain for a little bit this morning on my lower left, but no cramping).

ChattyKathy - February 9

I'm sorry, hun. Its really hard to tell since every m/c can be different and there can be so many reasons why you'd bleed other than a m/c. Its one of those things you really should get confirmed before believing the worst. Just get some rest and hopefully everything is okay.

Hopefully I'll be able to get my benefits by the end of this month. I'll also have to search around for a doctor, as with moving recently -- my 'normal' pcp is almost two hours away. I haven't had any of those little chunks since yesterday, though, so maybe that's a good thing?
