Too Many Vitamins A Bad Thing

I'm 7-8 weeks and I've been taking an additional Vitamin "B-12" supplement on-off for about a week now. I didn't see the harm in taking "Extra" vitamins just in case. But, my obg office just instructed me to stop taking the extra daily vitamin I've been taking for the last week. Has anyone done the same thing or know any potential problems from the "extra" in your system?

rachel- I would definately not take "extra" vitamins. I know certain vitamins (if overdosed) can cause birth defects in the baby. I'm sure with you doing it for only a week and being this early in pg....you are probably fine, but just stop now and do what your doc instructs you. If you feel like you are not getting enough b12 from your prenatals......eat more foods with b12 in them. they say you cant really overdose from the food version as easily as by taking pills.

I had the same concern and just asked my doctor's office. They said it was not a problem. Vitamin A is bad for babies in large amounts, but B vitamins are water soluble, which means you just pee out the extra. At least I hope so!
