Tummy Hard

I am 5 weeks along with my first and I have noticed that my stomach is slightly harder where my uterus is at. Is this normal? Any other first-timers experience this?

Congrats! It is very normal. It is also normal to have period like pains and discomfort from your uterus stretching. I thought I was going to lose the baby I was hurting so bad--all normal.

Thank you so much for your help Nadine. It was worrying me.

This is good--the hardness protects the baby. So if you get bumped in the belly, the uterus being hard like that will protect it. If it's not like that, then you'd have to worry :o) You're doing great, and congratulations!!

i'm 6 weeks and have noticed that too - but it seems more like severe bloating for me - or my whole tummy and below is super swollen! oh the joys :)

I am 6 wks long! the area very down below (is this where you are referring to uterus?) is very hard but isnt the belly supposed to start to grow from right below belly b___ton? Can someone explain the anatomy of it so I can get a visual. Congrats to all of you!

Your uterus starts out down low and is very hard; then, the farther along you get, the more it grows. Usually at around 12 weeks (the start of the 2nd trimester), the uterus starts to move up and out, which is why you won't have to pee as much for a little while. Then, as the baby gets SO big, then you're in the 3rd trimester, and then it covers everything. See? Does that make sense?

thanks! so basically it starts off hard right above pubic line and then pushes up (belly b___ton area) and then all over?
