Ultrasound Concern

According to my lmp I am 6 weeks today, according to the measurements of the gestational sac I am 5 weeks 2 days. My transva___al ultrasound showed a gestational sac and a yolk sac, but no fetal pole or heartbeat yet. The ultrasound tech was concerned about the location of the gestational sac, it is in the left corner of my uterus. My hcg levels have been doubling. I have another ultrasound in a week. Also my blood tested for antibodies so I had to give more blood to find out more about that. Anyone ever hear anything like this?

Don't worry too much just yet. It is very normal not to see a heartbeat before 7 or 8 weeks. I don't get why docs insist on doing ultrasounds before then. It causes stress that is sometimes unwarranted. As far as the position of the sac in the uterus, they can implant anywhere in there. I don't understand why that would be considered problematic? Since your HCG is doubling like it should, I would take a deep breath and try to relax a bit. Also, it is normal for the ultrasound measurement to give a different age than what you calculate. In your case it is only off by 5 days. I don't think that is a problem. With our first it was off by 5 days and with our second, by three. Our daughter will be three in February, and our son will be three months on Friday. Do you have any other children?

No, this is my first pregnancy. I think the doctors are trying to rule out ectopic pregnancy because it is near where the fallopian tube enters the uterus. I'm just so nervous now.

Are you having any pain? Usually a tubal pregnancy is accompanied with severe pain once you reach a certian gestation. I'm not exactly sure what that point would be. I wouldn't worry until your OB gives you reason to. I am sorry you are going through this. At your ultrasound next week-the 22nd? Things will be more clear. In the meantime find something else to concentrate on. Please let me know how your appointment goes.

mjvdec01, so it is normal to not see a heartbeat before 8 weeks? Well, maybe that is my problem. I have this on another thread, but my doc had me go in at 6 weeks, no heartbeat seen only yolk sac and gestational sac measuring at 8 weeks. HCG is normal and actually in the higher range of normal, the doc sent me to an ultrasound lab the same day and they are both in agreeance that this is a molar pregnancy. would not rule out the argument that maybe it is too soon to see a heartbeat. they swear that at 6-7 weeks with HCG levels being this high that a heartbeat would've been seen if there was one. so now i am in limbo just a__suming the worst is going to happen. urgh

evae777 I know how you feel. Now it's just a waiting game and it's so hard not to think about every minute. Hopefully we will both end up getting good news. mjv I don't have any pain, but from what I've read that can come later in an ectopic pregnancy, I'm just praying that's not me.
