Vitamin B6

Anyone taking B6 with their prenatal vitamins? What dose are you taking? I've read that it should only be 1.9 mg/day, but the bottle the doctor gave me is for 50 mg/day. Can anyone shed some light on this? I've been taking my prenatals for 2 days now and have not taken the B6 with them because I'm nervous that it may be too much. Too much B6 in pregnancy can lead to B6 dependecy in baby.

Hi TJ, according to my best friend who is a Naturopathic Physician, you can safely take up to 150mg of B vitamins, so 50mg is totally safe, you should be taking a B-complex though, just taking a B6 by itself will deplete the other Bs and you don't want to do that cause B12 is very important during pregnancy. Did your doctor give you a B-complex or a B6 by itself? Many MDs prescribe B6 by itself because they lack the education on vitamins that NDs have.

It is only B6. I actually asked for it because I believe it was suppose to help with the nausea and vomitting. I'll ask when I go to my doctor if maybe I need something different. Is there already B vitamins in prenatal pills? Do I really need to be taking any additional vitamins besides the prenatal?

TJ, yes there's B's in prenatals. You don't need to take extra but I find when I don't take my B-complex as well as my prenatal, my nausea's worse.
