Alcohol In Cooking

I know this might seem silly, but is it OK to use alcohol in sauces when pregnant? I remember seeing somewhere that when you cook the alcohol the heat takes away the alcoholic content, but can't remember exact details, I've seen some really nice recipes that I want to try but they have a red wine sauce which has about 1 pint of red wine in it!!

Yes, a__suming you didn't empty a half a bottle of scotch in the sauce, once you bring the sauce to a boil most if not all alcohol should evavopate. :-)

Yes what BBK said, my husband thinks that everything he makes needs sherry or wine in it. I think he is Julia Child's long lost son. :0)

Jennifer, you picked the right man :-)Does he also use a stick of b___ter in everything (I don't)? That's really being Julia Child's long lost son :-)

Thanks for your responses - I thought that was the case, but didn't want to risk it in case I'd got totally the wrong end of the stick!

No b___ter, ahem, he says that would be unhealthy. :0)

It is fine. I feed my kid pasta sauce with wine cooked in all the time, so I a__sume I can have it while pregnant!

We use beer and wine in alot of our dishes. But I wouldnt worry about it. When you cook most of the alchol is evaporated. The only time I would say no is when its something like rum cake. They soak the cake in rum so it still has the alchol in it.
