If you are on an antibiotic and taking birth control there is definitely a risk that you could get pg if you have unprotected s_x. Any pharmacist should give that information when you pick up the prescription, unless they didn't realize you are on bc. But anyway, the answer is, the risk is very high!

My antibiotic/birth control incident is now a very active six year old.

This is not true. Antibiotics do not reduce the effectiveness of BCP'S. I learned this from a Nurse Practicioner, and I am a nursing student. She said the pharmacy puts these warnings on the pill so they don't get sued. The pill is 100% effective if taken "perfectly". But not everyone takes them perfectly. Hence the warnings.

I have always been told by doctors/pharmacists that CERTAIN antibiotics decrease the effectiveness of the BCP. I had a friend who took her pill perfectly (even had the timer set on her cell phone so she would take it at the same time everyday) and ended up pregnant after being on antibiotics and the pill at the same time. I doubt anyone can give you an exact answer as to how great your risk is, but it is much simpler just to use back-up protection in case the two medications do interact. Good luck!
