Babies And Sleep

As you all know, Abby is approaching 7 weeks. She is eating anywhere between 5 & 6 ounces of formula and will sleep at night usually for 3-5 hours, sometimes going longer, rarely shorter. However, many people have said that by the 6th week, they should be getting their days and nights in better order. We feed Abby certainly once in the middle of the night and sometimes again around dawn. We have been quick to give her the bottle thinking she is just hungry (for future parents please don't do this)! Try giving her a hug and her pacifier because we did that this morning and it seemed to have worked, at least for a little while. Can anyone share their stories of what it was like sleeping for you when your babies were at this stage? We appreciate the input.

hi JLorenzo. good to see you're still around. it's been a while since my boys were that young but as far as i can remember they've always been good sleepers, so i might not be the best to compare sleeping notes with! mine were both b___stfed and i think they woke up probably around 2 times in an 8 hour night, so about once every 4 hours. but they would sleep very peacefully in between. from what you're saying, it sounds like abby is being pretty reasonable for a baby her age, but if the soother thing works then go for it! they'll definitely let you know when and if they're not satisfied. it is important, obviously, that she doesn't feel hungry, but you may want to start teaching her to soothe herself somewhat, which is what it sounds like you've discovered. just wait until they're 6-18 months old, and they wake up just because they want to play!!!!! hey, how did the pool party go, by the way?

CEM, thanks! That was very helpful! The pool party was nice. It was cool outside so we didn't put Abby in the water. But she was well behaved and didn't mind being pa__sed around! Thanks for asking, and remembering!
