Baby S Positioning

This is my second pregnancy and am 26 weeks along and I am wondering how you tell which way the baby is laying. I feel movement everywhere!

I'm not sure, but I had to get an u/s, and that showed me that my baby was in the breach position. I'm 33 weeks. But I dont know if he's moved. I feel him moving in there, but I'm not sure if its kick, punches or head b___ts I feel!

I know this may sound weird, but I was wondering aside from head down & breach positions, does the baby turn around to face your tummy or back? I mean, from the sound of it, when they kick and you feel in on your stomach, I a__sumed they'd be facing forward (like you). But then they're born backwards? Which way is it or do they constantly change which way they're facing? I'm curious because I'm pregnant with my first and like to know what's going on inside! Congratulations to everyone!

thats a good question! I a__sume that they do face forwards and back... I do know they can change positions up until you go into labour,. I have another u/s tomorrow, I should ask them,,,

They could face forward (posterior), backward (anterior) or mid-position (kinda like facing your kidney). Ideally by birth they should be in anterior or mid position and head down (cephalic presentation).

BBK, are you a doctor, or just a very well informed husband? I wish mine took some time to get to know a little something about my pregnancy! Any baby there yet for you?

When do they get into downward position for birth?

Chelsey, I studied physiology and biochem. I also taught embyology as an adjunct prof a while back....before I had to face the "real" world of business. I keep up with research b/c I plan to go back to teaching one day.... I may finish my PhD one of these days too ;-)

julie, my doctor told me that by 36 weeks, baby should have settled into head down position. But I think he's wrong, I hear different things from alot of people. I'd actually like an educated opinion on that as well, also if baby is breach, is c-section the only option for delivery? or can they do something to move baby into proper positioning?

My doctor told me the baby was head down at 32 weeks.

To turn a breech baby a procedure called ECV (External Cephalic Version) is performed usually at 38 weeks. An attempt is made to turn the baby manually. It's as much of an art as it is a science, so you may get a specialist to do it.
