Not being American I've never been to or hosted a baby shower. They sound like a lovely idea but I can't help wondering if its not a bit like tempting fate. By the way I'm not dismissing a lovely tradition its just something which has made me wonder.

theres baby showers all over the world! lol. i dont think they jynx anything, its just a little party for close friends & family to celerbrate a new life. some people have showers after the babys born also. its really just a little party for the baby, and people bring diapers, wipes, some clothes or blankets, anything really. its a great chance to stock up on things you'll need

Baby showers tend to be when the woman is 6-8 months, or after birth. So, when the woman is further along the risks are very slim. I've been to formal ones (not much fun), but they're usually laid back with some snacks, a cake, sometimes games and of course gifts. Gifts range from diapers, outfits, picture frames, even a stroller (usually from the parents of the pregnant couple.) Hope this helps.

Cool thanks for the insight girls much appreciated. I think I prefere the idea of having a shower after the birth in many ways (guess you can have a gla__s of wine then too lol). Its certainly something I'm considering. xxxxxx

If nothing else, have a get-together to celebrate the arrival of your darling!

i think that the concept mof the baby shower and its importance has been lost in todays society. so many people today see it as a gift getting party. when truly this party is to be to celebrate the new life you are creating. as patti sais most are late in the pregnancy so the risk is almost not existent of something happening.
