Baby Sign Language

I'm only 20 weeks pregnant with my first child and I'm hearing great things about baby sign language. I bought some cards with simple signs. They look pretty easy to learn (apparently they can learn it from 6 months onwards) and I'm thinking it'd be wonderful if it really worked and I was able to communicate with my baby. Has anyone else ever tried it? Did you succeed? What are your thoughts on this?

I think that it would be a wonderful idea if you have the time to teach. It would also be good for you because you can learn with the baby. I feel it would be very beneficial. My hubby is hispanic and speaks to the belly in spanish all the time. He are gonna teach her early so it's easier on her.....I plan to learn with her too. She already has a spanish speaking Elm. It's so cute.

Hi Moocher - April 16

I am a speech-language pathologist and teaching babies sign language is a great thing to do! It helps to develop language skills and may facilitate increased communication skills early on! It works, and best of luck!

i did a little sign language with my older kids when they were babies and it was great. my only regret is stopping when they began to talk. neither of them remember any of it. lol. there is a book called baby signs and a set of videos as well. good luck.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I will definitely give it a go! Heavenly, my baby will be learning another language as well because my husband is Russian. It's the best time for them to learn. We won't be able to get over to Russia very often to see the Grandparents, so It'll be great if our kid can talk to them on the phone. They don't speak any English.
