Back Surgery Amp Pregnancy

Has anyone had back surgery and then had a child? My husband and I are planning on starting a family in 2007, but I am scared to death. I had lower back surgery in 2000. My doctor's say everything has been fine since the surgery, but they cannot say that the labor will not cause harm. I really do not want a c-section. I am just looking to see what others in this similar situation made out. Thanks everyone.

Hi jal! I am in a similar situation, my husband and I just started ttc and I had back surgery in 1998. Everything has been fine with me after the surgery (knock on wood). Once I become pregnant, I plan on discussing this with my OBGYN further, but I really think there is nothing to worry about. I do read about how painful back labor can be (if that happens to you-doesn't happen to all women) but for me, I don't want to put any unnecessary pressure on my back where I have scar tissue and had a disc repaired- it was the worst pain of my life and I don't plan on experiencing that again, so I plan on discussing a scheduled c-section with my doctor once I become pregnant. I know you say you don't want one, but either way, I really think you should be just fine. Whether you decide to go through v____al delivery or a c-section. If its really that much of a concern to you, you should talk to your doctor about it in detail. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help to you, but at least you know there's someone out there going through the same thing. Best of luck!!
