Bad Cramps After Paps

My whole life I've had unbearable periods and really bad cramping after pap smears. They've never found anything abnormal. Most of the docs have just told me I'm ultra sensitive or I have irritable uterus. Now I'm in my 12th week and we've decided to do the pregnancy pap at 14 weeks. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I'm afraid of a miscarriage or something. I'm probably freakin' myself out over nothing, but I'd really be nice to hear from someone.

My doctor schedules a pap for EVERY pregnant woman. If you were to have some sort of infection that the doc could catch during this exam, you could avoid all sorts of problems like preterm labor and miscarriage. The pap doesn't disturb the uterus, they just take some cells from the cervix. Personally, I haven't heard of a pap causing a m/c. Ask the doc to use a smaller speculum, it might help!

I hadn't thought of the smaller speculum idea. Thank you! I know the pap just involves the cervix, but every time they sc___pe mine, I get period-like cramps. Could they hurt baby?
