Basal Body Temperature Question

Hi. My husband and I are ttc for about 8 mos now. My friend had advised me to take my BBT to find out exactly when I am ovulating. She explained to me that on the first few days I take my temperature it will be around 91, 92, 93.... low 90's and then as I start to ovulate it will reach 96, 97, 98, 99... I just finished my period two days ago. Right after my period, I started to take my temperature. On my first day my temperature was 97.8 and my second 97.3. Is this normal to be this high when I am not near ovulation? And how will I know when I am actually ovulating if it is going to be high all the time. I took my temperature at the same exact time both mornings (around 6:15) BEFORE I did ANYTHING! Am I doing something wrong? Any info. will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Teri, I started taking my temp and after my period my temps were in the 96 range. When I ovulated it jumped into the 97 range. Everyone's bodies are different. Keep tracking your temp each day same time and you will start to see a pattern. You'll know when you ovulated because there will be a big increase in your temp. I tracked my temp for three months before i got pregnant.

Hi Denise, Thank you for the info. One more question, should I be having s_x BEFORE the temperature jump or can I get pregnant when it reaches the highest temperature? Thanks.

Usually people try up to three days before and on the day of the temp increase. You can also try an ovulation kit to give you the days leading up to the day of ovulation. If your cycle is regular you will see a pattern each month by taking your temp and you will pretty much know what the days are that you should have s_x. Good luck!!!

Thanks Denise!!

No problem Terri. One other thing i forgot to mention too is that once your temp increases it will stay high until you get your period again then it will drop back down. I hope everything works out for you!!!
