Is birth control effective the first day you use it?

lilmama - November 30

My doc told me to wait a month or so just to make sure it is in effect, so i guess not

No. Some pills take a month to start working.

Well I use the birth control patch and when using the patch for the first month you have to use some kind of contraceptive... after the first month have past then you dont have to use any contraceptives.

if its a condom yes it is effective, not the first day but the first second you put it on..(as long as it doesn't rip:)

You really should wait until you get your first period on the pill to rely on it entirely. The pill stops you from ovulating so if your body is just starting to get used to the new hormones it might not get the signal not to ovulate right away. The pill is more effective the first month if you start it exactly when you are supposed to in your cycle. If you start in the middle of a cycle your body will more likely be out of whack. Hope this helps. When in doubt use extra protection the first month.
