I have heard that it can be. It is known as the "Midwife's Epidural" because it can greatly reduce the pain of contractions and make you relax through them - BUT it doesn't work for everyone. Some moms say the water only helps them a small percentage, but they still wanted to stay in the water as it did help some. I would really like to labor in water - and possibly give birth - if it helps me relax! Hot showers are supposed to help, alot, too. I'm a first timer due in Feb but this is something I've looked into! :)

Im definatley going to try a water birth when i have a baby (will start ttc early 06). The net has heaps of info on it and it sounds like a really nice way of giving birth.
