Preeclampsia is usually a concern after 20 weeks. If you have high blood pressure before pregnancy, it's chronic. If it rises before 20 weeks, it's pregnancy induced hypertension. If it rises after 20 weeks, it's preeclampsia. There are blood pressure medications your wife can be given. Sometimes protein in the urine can be from a v____al infection. I had pregnancy-induced hypertension during my first pregnancy. They controlled it with medication, increasing the dosage several times, until I was 36 weeks, when they induced labor. I have preeclampsia with my current pregnancy, and I'm on medication again. Your wife may have to have more doctor visits and more tests as a result of her high blood pressure, but since it was caught early, and with good prenatal care, she should be fine.
