when doctors break your water for you does that pain hurt a lot?? it looks painful

I'm not sure but my best fried said the doctors had to break her water bag and she said that it hurts. they stick this stick like tube up in our you know were then they break it. sounds painful to me

My doctor has had to break my water for both of my last pregnancies and will probably have to do it for this one also...it has never hurt...it's just uncomfortable because it feels like you have wet all over yourself but I have never experienced any pain with this..

i've done it twice and it's never hurt. it's never nice to have things shoved into your cervix, but it's far from painful. if the dr does it *right* you should already be a few cm dilated so the "shoving" isn't nessisary.

They broke my water when I was 4cm dilated and it didn't hurt at all. It is a really skinny stick and you feel hardly anything until everything is wet. It's nothing to worry about.

When they broke my water, it was the most painful part of my childs birth. It is possible the hook caught on my cervix.
