Bringing Newborn Infant To Highly Public Places

when did you feel comfortable bringing your baby to the grocery store or mall?

I already took my two week old to costco and target. I just cover his car seat so that no one can see him and he is warm. My doctor told me that crowded places should be avoided until after their two month shots. Avoid places where there are a lot of kids. But going to a park or for walks are ok. I asked my doctor if I can take the baby to the mall and she said it would be ok but go when its not crowded and cover baby up so that no one can see him.

I took my son out at 2 weeks. He caught a cold 3 days later:) I wanted to show him off so badly. Every proud mommy does!!

We haven't yet at 4 weeks, but it has to do with our ethnic tradition and the fact that it's too hot outside for a park stroll. If you're b___stfeeding, the immune capability is there for 2 months, then you get the shots..... but avoid crowded places. Monica, what do you cover the car seat with?

k - August 11

what exactly do you mean about the immune capability?

ethnic tradition?

I took Amaya out at about 3 weeks. We went to Target. We put her in the stroller with her carseat. Both of the visors close it completely so that it guards from rain (And NASTY people wanting to touch her) The same week we went to the mall and I carried her in the sling. I suggest taking either a sling or stoller/carseat combo so people wont want to touch.

Your b___stmilk continues to supply antibodies and antibody making substances to the infant up to about 2 months. After that they magically disappear, and this is why most docs vaccinate that time.

the antibodies only last 2 months even if you continue to b/f? oh, that's alarming...

Well, by that time infants begin to develop their own immune system, but they wont be 100% mature. Not to worry though as healthy infants should do well against infections etc. Plus the medical care is so good now.... not an issue, so don't worry.

bbk, is your wife b/f'ding?

Our dr said today to wait until 2 weeks for busy places. I told him I HAD to go to Wal-mart today (just can't send hubby out for nursing bras and b___st pads...) and he said to cover her up and keep anyone from touching her.

K, yes she is.... right now almost excusively since my daughter refuses the formula with a vengence. She still drinks an ounce after she's half asleep.
