Has anyone experienced chest pain along w/ mid-upper back pain? Not a sharp pain more of a pressure. I am 30 weeks and I am having this...it is quite uncomfortable to try to sleep. It is not heartburn. I am tired of going to the doctors for every little thing and wanted to know if other have experienced this during pregnancy.

Anyone? This is a serious question. I know that there are a lot of other he said, she said posts going on... but can we deal w/ pregnancy for a second. Thanks.

This is a good one. I am 28 weeks and have had them off and on. I really would like to know.

It could be "pregnant "related pain, but my first thought is gallstones.I,ve had them since march and i'm 34 weeks now.The pain starts between your shoulder blades and goes to your chest which is painfull. If thats what you have the pain level can be different every time.I get them where its a pressure with or without pain and i get them in attacks and from what i have found out the pain is worse than going into labor.I would advice for you to tell your docter about it,i really hope you don't have them, but just in case it gets worse and you get an attack you know what it could be.The first time i thought i was having a miscarriage or that my longs were collapsing and having a heartattack at the same time.I will check back with you today and let me know if you have any questions,i'll be happy to help out. Also i've been on the "pregnancy complications" forum and click on gallstones during pregnancy;it gives you an idea on what the other two ladies went through.Good luck

You should certainly ask your Doc about this in order to rule out any serious complications. Most of the time this pressure has to do with your rib cage expanding or from the pressure on your upper/mid-back if you are a large-chested woman.

Thanks for responding. Karen, it is good to know that someone else can relate. Shelly, the back pain I am having is not between the shoulder blades. It is more so on the back of my ribs. The chest and the back pain I am having are both a little bit to the right of the center. I keep thinking about a collapsed lung or that maybe I am heading toward a heartattack...but then again, there are so many normal pregnancy aches and pains. What did they do for your gallstones?...remove your gallbladder?

~E~ - July 6

BBK, I will call the doctor's in a few hours. I just hate having to go in for nothing and missing work. LOL..I am not a large-chested woman, so we can rule that out. The expanding rib cage maybe a good possibility as I have a small frame and this is my first child.

Shelly - July 6

Ok, several answers: I also have a small frame and this is my first baby.I saw you went to my gallstone site and to answer your question from there whenever i get an attack i start having a pressure between my shoulderblades and chest and if i get a "bad attack" like i was telling you earlier it feels like my longs are collapsing its a pounding and stabbing pain, my chest gets tight like having a heartattack and its hard and painfull to breath and it last anywhere between i hour and 8 !!!!!! hours. But for everybody it feels different,if you look at Tami's and Anna's story its different than mine. We made the decision to wait with removing my gallbladder until after the baby is born and with painmedication and an other pill my attacks have been more bearable and shorter. They are more often cuz my little boy is kicking against it.The gallbladder is on the righthand side under your chest close to the ribs.I've never felt any pain on my side so i never thought it would be that.Likke i said i feel it on my back and chest.Tami had to have hers removed cuz it was blocking her liver and her skin even turned yellow. And to answer your other question none of us is scheduled for c-section, and we are also hoping we don't have to have one either.Let me know if you want to know more, and i really hope you don't have it,i didn't want to scare you but like i said it is a possibility. It's just hard to get them when your pregnant, some people can live with them for years witout even knowing, some others suffer alot with them, and women have an increased chance of developing gallstones especially during pregnancy. And if you have them you'll probably have to go on a diet until you deliver,at least you'are pretty far along.Diet is simple:if it has any taste you can't have it LOL.Seriously, you cant have deepfried food,or spicy or fatty.(no milkshakes unless is fatfree icecream with tasteless fatfree milk) Hi BBK,how are you and your better half doing today? I found out that "E" was off with her prediction.Well its a good thing hopefully your wife will hang in there until your docter is back!!!!!!!

Shelly thanks for asking...no signs of labor yet. My better 1/2 is doing OK considering it's only 11 days till D-day.... Doc appt is on Monday, so we'll see then... ~E~ sorry to hijack your thread.

Thanks Shelly. After reading your post, I looked up some info on the net about gallstones and the whole thing with the right side being the location of the gallbladder concerned me... so I called the doc and I am going in for a visit today. The diet seems like no fun...eliminates most of my reg. diet. I appreciate all the info and the answers to my questions. ...will keep you posted. Thank you again.

Shelly - July 6

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. When is your appointment? And yeah let me know what he says.I know that diet is no fun but its not the end of the world either.I have been dealing with it since march 2. Good luck .

Ok, so I went to the after-hours center last night... We had to wait for 3 hours to be even seen. Anyway the doctor said that it is probably the baby kicking...I told her that he doesn't kick that high in my rib cage yet. Then she said he is probably on a nerve and it is referred pain... WHATEVER! In my opinion, she was trying to offer an easy answer and get done as the center was getting ready to close by the time they were ready to see me. I asked her whether it could be gallstones. She said that it doesn't seem like it from my description of the pain. She also said that if it were that I would be hunched over with my knees to my chest. So, Shelly, is that so? First off, I told the doctor that I wasn't having the pain when I was in the office. They gave me an EKG anyway... I am a__suming this is to cover their backs and nothing else. I would have liked them to take a look at my chest...the ultrasound or however....but no...she just pushed in my abdomen and got the baby to kick and said yeah he is on that side. Well, ofcourse if you keep pushing, he is gonna kick and try to get your hand outta there. He does not constantly kick in the same spot... however the pain is consistenly in the same place...always on the right side. Well, I left very irritated for wasting 3 and 1/2 hours and getting nothing accomplished. This is exactly why I HATE going to the doctor's for things...they are not really interested in finding out what's going on... just offering a quick answer w/out enough exams and sending you away. I am not having the pain right now...but if it keeps happening I guess I will have to take another route as I don't think it has ANYTHING to do w/ the baby kicking nor him pressing against a nerve. The last time I had mentioned the chest pain to my ob doc, he said it is probably heartburn. Well, I had never had heartburn so I thought that is what the pain was. After a few weaks, I had heartburn for a couple days... and heartburn is clearly a burning sensation... nothing like the pain I described. Right now, I am just so frustrated w/ the medical profession. Maybe it is nothing serious and normal pregnancy pains, but they really should look into it and not just say oh it's the baby. URGH!

BBK - July 7

~E~ that's unfortunate. Some doctors today get numb and treat patients like merchandise..... there are still many good doctors out there though. Anyway another possibility is that your expanding uterus is putting a lot of pressure on your internal organs and being that the liver is the biggest and on the right side, it could be the cause of your pain.

~E~ - July 7

BBK, you are right there are good doctors... I have met a few. Your suggestions are probable to me. The answer she gave, I just don't feel like there was any basis for it. Well, I will keep going and if it continues to be bothersome I'll talk to my ob at the next visit about it. Thanks for understanding.

Pff,i don't like all docters either.Let me get quickly to the point;when i have a bad attack i am indeed folded over in pain. When i have a mild attack its just pressure with pain. Then i have days that i don't feel anything or i have days that i have a pressure either only on my back or both back and chest. The first time i had an attack,it was march second and i woke up at 2;00 am and i thought i was going to die.my husband rushed me to the ER and at that time i was 16 weeks pregnant.I thought it was the baby.Three hours later i still hadn't seen a docter.Besides being in horrible pain,i was so worried about the baby and at the same time i was sooooo p__sed off.At 5:30 I told the nurse to @#$$%% herself and walked out.I went home and took a couple of showers, heat was the only thing that made easier on me and at 8:30 i was in front of my docters office. With my luck my doc had taken the day off so i had to see the other one.he came in a little before 10:00 and probably around 9:30 my pain was totally gone.Anyways the subst_tute just listened to the baby's heart and off i went.Three weeks later i ate a fried taquito and 5 min later i had another bad attack.Went again to the ER,they saw me right away (i was so shocked lol) and the doc gave me lortabs for the pain, listened to the baby, asked me a bunch of questions and said he thought i had gallstones. So the next day i saw my docter (i love him to death) and he thought the same, like i told you before its strange b/c i don't get pain in the side,it stays on my back and chest. My chest sometimes even swells up some that i have to take my bra off.Anyways,he send me to the hospital to get an U/S from my gallbladder and the results the next day was that i did have the gallstones. As i'm getting further along in my pregnancy (today 35 weeks!!!!!!!!!)it bothers me more b/c the baby likes to kick against my ribs and yes you can guess it;the gallbladder.Right now besides being on that diet i have Lortabs for the pain and if i feel the pressure building up (i know when its going to happen now) i have another pill, its called Levlin and its a sublingual pill,it relaxes my gallbladder and a lot of times i avoid an attack by taking one of those.BBK i mentioned the names, thought you would like to know.~E~ i'm just giving you detailed information b/c there may be something in there where you may relate to and give you a better idea.BBK's point of the liver and the nerve is of course also a possibility.I have had the baby laying in such position and kicking that i'm pretty sure he was holding a nerve and i felt that down below.I also want to mention since i'm also pregnant with the pregnancy pain that the pain i feel in my back and sides are different than the ones from the gallstones. And heartburn is a totally different feeling too!!!!!

BBK - July 7

Shelly is it called Levlin or perhaps Levsin?

Shelly - July 7

Sorry BBK,i just had a typo,it is Levsin
