Choosing A Pediatrician

I am looking to decide on a pediatrician soon. What are some of the things you look/looked for? What are the advantages to a group practice instead of a single doctor's office? Please post any advice and suggestions regarding selecting a pediatrician for an infant.

Proximity to your home was a big one, vaccination philosophy, flexibility, good att_tude, responsive and never go for a very busy/factory type environment. As long as the private office has a quick responding answering service and can put you in touch with their "backup" doc, in case yours is in Hawaii it's fine. If a group practice, make sure you don't get a different doc every visit. The best way to pick a Ped doc is a referral by someone you know and trust.

I asked around the office where I work. Some of the ladies told me who their pediatrician was. So that is how I picked mine. She is in a group practice, but it hasn't ever made any difference to me. I love her to death and she is great with my daughter. Very calm natured.

E, that is so funny that you posted that because I have just started looking to interview peds. I did find this website to be good and it lists questions to ask www.babyresource.com/pediatrician-questions.htm. Luckily my brother lives around the corner and uses a very good practice right up the street but I still plan on checking out a few to see who I am most comfortable with. Good luck! If you live in the Cleveland, Ohio area by any chance I could share who I have checked out, let me know.

I am definitely looking for one quite close to our home and I can't think of anyone we know who can refer someone that close...but will check w/ family and friends (maybe a little distance will be worth it?). BBK, can you expand on the vaccination philosophy? Trish, I live in MD. I will check out the site. Thanks for the advice guys!

I meant that you have a vaccination philosophy that it is alligned with the doc's.
