Ok. I know why not to smoke, and not to drink and am told to keep it under 3 cups of coffee per day. But does anyone know why, or I guess what kind of adverse affects that cafeen has on the baby?

I think it's just there not sure what effects it has on the baby and thats why we're supposed to watch it. With this pregnancy I haven't slept good and I can see how caffine would make that worse as well.

This is what I heard, but someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Coffee or anything with caffeine is a stimulant, and increases the baby's heart rate. If you have too much of it, then the baby can become dependant on it, and after the birth, when it is vulnerable, like it has a cold or something, it needs this stimulant which it is no longer getting and is more likely to die in it's sleep. If anyone has a more scietific explanation, let us know. Anyway, coffee is fine in moderation. I just have 1 cup a day, to be on the safe side.

Caffeine increases the time that a fetus stays awake in utero. Fetal growth occurs while the fetus is asleep. Low birth weight is a risk of ingesting too much caffeine.
